Just curious...did you girls book the church first and then your RH, or vice versa. We booked the RH first (a lot of dates we wanted were sold out) and FH's parents are not happy! They said the church is most important.

We called the church to see what days they had open before looking for a RH, but I know most do the RH first. If I were you I would not let the church know that RH is booked yet, just say thats the date your looking for.

I would say the church should be booked first, especially if you have your heart on a specific church....I had originally wanted to get married the Sunday before Memorial Day. It was available at my RH, but the church was booked for that day. So I had to find days that my church was available first and then compare those dates to the days that the RH was available.

Booked the RH 1st and then called a church b/c we did not have a home church...but since it was so far in advance they had the whole year open.

It was almost the same time.
Technically we booked the RH first - but we had already called to see if the church was available that day even though the wouldn't put us 'in the book' until we met with the priest which was the week AFTER we booked the RH.
We didn't tell the priest that though......

I think they usually tell you to book the church before the RH. I called the RH halls we were interested in to find out what dates they had free. Then we went to the church, we then asked for that date. Then, we officially booked the hall,

OoOoOo I hope the church is available! Just booked the RH last night so I called the church 4 diff times today and was repeatedly told to 'call back in a little bit'. Ugh!!!

Church first. Always..doesn't make sense to have the reception without making sure you can get married on that day first! Plus some churches may have specific days or times for weddings..our church requires all weddings be at 3 PM so we had no choice but to have an evening reception.

The church will also say the church is most important, but from a practical perspective, halls tend to book faster/earlier than churches do. We booked the hall first (and FH and his parents are super Catholic and it was THEIR suggestion to do it that way)
We booked the hall and the church didn't even have a book out for 2011 yet!
PS, we didn't TELL the church we had the hall booked already... and they didn't ask.

We booked the RH first but when we went to book the church the receptionist was saying that we shouldn't tell the pastor that we did that because you're 'supposed to book the church first' but we ended up telling him & he was fine

We booked the RH first, it's much harder to book and in reality everything depends on whether you actually have a date for your reception! I'd explain that to them. If that's not good enough of an excuse let FH's parents be angry, you will learn pretty quickly that you cannot make everyone happy during this process. It's impossible, so just make yourself happy and when the day comes it'll all be worth it.

we booked the RH first. My church isn't going to start booking dates for 2011 until January. I wanted to make sure we had the date first with the RH.

I booked my RH first- but you are not supposed to. I only did because I was waiting for my annulment to come though and I didnt want to loose my date for the hall. But if you book the hall first - dont tell the church!!
