church / priest returning phone calls...

Original post by Kara and Todd

How long did you wait for the church / priest to call you back after leaving a message the first time? (This is to set up an initial meeting)

I called Monday morning... still haven't heard back. I waited 2 days (until this morning) to call the rectory back. I called them a few minutes ago and just said I wanted to make sure he wasn't traveling or something. The receptionist was sort of stand-offish like 'No, he just didn't call you back, yet. I gave him the message...' I wasn't accusing her of not, I just wanted to leave another message. I just asked her politely to please leave another message for the priest and left the phone number again.

Was it wrong to call back after 48 hours?

The priest we wanted called back, but he's moving to another parish soon - and he wasn't sure about his schedule for next summer. He said to talk to one of other priests at the church and at least reserve the date / time. Then he said if we'd prefer to have him perform the ceremony, we should call him in the spring.

I guess we'll go to option #2... It was a dead tie between him and another priest, so I'm not totally crushed... Just wish I had this information a few days ago!

I now get to call back my favorite receptionist at the rectory to leave a message for another priest. I hope she doesn't think I'm nuts or something!

I have had the same peoplem. Me and my FH have been trying to get in contact with 2 different churches. Still no answer. I was thinking about going there in person as well. After reading these I think we will do that. We have been trying since late august. And it's the same story. Either no call back or the receptionist says they don't have there books. I haven't even been able to speak to the preist.

Finally got in touch with someone nice and helpful at the church! I just asked to speak to the pastor's assistant. She is leaving a message with one of the deacons so we can come in to set a date and at least reserve our time at the church and get the paperwork rolling. (We have to get a dispensation b/c my FI is not Catholic - she said it's not a bid deal)

It looks like the pastor will be available the dates we have in mind, but otherwise someone else at the church will marry us -- either the deacon or another priest.

Let's hope the deacon calls back soon...

I waited weeks to speak to the deacon...and now have been waiting about 6 weeks for the actual priest to call. I've called a few times and spoke to the secretary to make sure my name was still in there! She said to sign up for pre-cana and the priest will contact us 'closer to the wedding'!!!
