post a thread and asking what churches allow non-parish members. ALot of them will give you trouble if either of you arent a member. This way it will narrow it down for you and cause you less aggrevation.

Where are you from? are you from another borough? if so then i would get married there. I am from queens and just did ceremony there and reception in LI

Ours, Holy Name of Mary in Valley Stream, is around $400 (don't know if that includes pre-cana) and we have to tip our altar servers at the rehearsal.

Re: Church question?

Thats crazy..our 'donation' is only $500 and I still thought was alot for a donation.

Re: Church question?

Another silly question, since it is a 'donation' are you all gonna write it off for tax purposes?

Re: Church question?

wow.. I'm getting married at the church both my and my FHs parents were married in. Its $450 w.o. precana. He did mention though that the church I belong to cost upwards of $900. So I do believe the 1k price, even if it is ridiculous

Re: Church question?

ours is $850 including everything.

it seems like a lot at first, but if you think about ALL the money you're spending that day, the least you could do is donate a few hundred dollars to the church.

Holy! thats ridiculous! Why is everything so darn expensive!? For my ceremony fee, it was like $700, and I am getting married at the RH. Lord knows what precana will cost...

Re: Church question?

I think our church is about $700 after all is said and done

Re: Church question?

Okay here is the breakdown from my church:

If one of you are from the parish the offering is $500, if not it is $625. A $100 deposit refundable under certain conditions is to be paid when the wedding date is set.

Music Director offering is $125
Singer offering is $100.

Gratuities to sacristans and alter servers are greatly appreciated. All offerings and gratuities are presented at the rehearsal.

I think Pre-Cana is $60 and it includes breakfast. (I think)'

So in total I will be paying $785 for church and music.

if you are getting married at the RH then you dont need to do pre-cana. Pre-cana is only if you get married in the catholic church, and if you dont get married in the catholic church they dont recognize the marriage, the church doesn't but obviously the state does lol.

Ok, I have a weird situation. In order for me to be married on the beach and not freak out my father, I had to ask permission from the priest to see if he could marry us on the beach. With that said, we have to go to the church the day before and 'sign the papers' and we were also told that in order to do this, we needed to do precana. So he will do our ceremony on the beach, it won't be holy but our marriage will be recognized because of the day before. Whew. That was a mouthful. All b/c my daddy wanted the marriage to be recognized... can't blame him though.

really? wow that is really really rare bc priests arent allowed to do weddings outside of the church. We were told that even if a priest does it outside the church which catholic church doesnt allow, unless its performed inside the church then not recognized, very interesting. DH had asked and dont even know why since his mother is so religious and he knew that wasnt happening lol

Thats why we have to do the actual Church thing the day before in the church with our parents and siblings present and do the 'ceremony' the next day. Our priest is a long time family friend who use to come to my house to give mass to my sick grandfather before he passed. He is more or less doing this as a favor for my family.

BTW, I like your hair color! Its really nice looking!

oh so you might do more than sign the papers then. The papers i didnt sign on wedding day thats why i asked. WE just signed those at the rehearsal. I know a bishop can allow it and its called a dispensation.
