Church question?

Church question?

Anyone getting married in a catholic church. I called mine today and their 'donation' is over 1k! I cannot believe that! It does include Pre-Cana but what does that normally cost? Also, do you have to tip the priest on top of this donation?

Ahhh that was as shocker.

OH CR@P!!!! i jus realized i forgot to put my Pre-Cana payment with my form that i brought to church last week!!

ok so my church is a total of $580, then $60 for precana, and a tip for the altar servers ($5-$10 each) and then im assuming we will either tip or make a donation in the name of the priest, for about $50.......

so that comes out to about $700

wow that seems a bit pricey to me.. mine is prob around $600 w the precana. you do not tip the priest, i heard its in bad taste but they told us we should tip the organist, the alter boys and the sexton (although im not sure who that is)

Mines is 400 as a donation for the ceremony and 100 for the organist. I'm not sure about the cost for pre canna (I didn't know there were any). As for tipping the priest, I think that your donation is good enough and wouldn't worry about it.

I am. I don't know what our donation is yet. We met with the priest once so far, but it was short because he was in a rush. We have another appointment with him on March 1st so I guess that's when we find all of our details out.

Also, I don't think you need to tip the priest.

I think ours will come to about $500 - $600 as well - we surprisingly have a small donation of $300 (or is it $400?) Can't remember!! $1k is a bit pricey!!!

I ma getting married in a Lutheranchurch an the total cost is $850 thats for the pastor, the organist and wedding coordinator to handle the rehersal and the day of. Lutherans do not require an oficial pre cana but this pastor suggests some premarital sesions like 2-4 of them and they are included as well

$1k is way too much...most churches are around $500.

My church is $650 and I think thats alot. It doesn't include pre-cana, with pre-cana its around $800.

That stinks that its so much, I don't really have any other choice because I am not a parishioner at any church in Long Island anymore since I moved away to Westchester, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't crazy for thinking that the donation was ridiculous.

Thanks everyone!

Re: Church question?

I would check with them and make sure the pre-cana isnt the weekend retreat pre-cana. On my sheet for the church it had pre-cana included but it was the retreat pre-cana and thats $350. BUT i found out that we didnt have to do that one and we were able to pick any pre-cana we wanted. We did the regular 2 day precana and that was $175.

OUr donation was $600. But at first on our sheet it was also about $1k bc of that pre-cana but we didnt pay the church directly for the pre-cana anyways so we just gave a $600 check, and paid for pre-cana separately on the site.

Hopefully this is the situation for you.

ALso are they including church music in the fee

Thanks for this! I am going to meet with the priest next week so hopefully I can find out all the details about church music, etc then. I will definitely ask if I can get away with a different precana. I also live far away and heard I might be able to do it closer to where I live, hopefully for cheaper.

ours is a little over $700..but that includes the church, the organist, a soloist and pre-cana.

find out what the 1k includes...maybe it is adding people (i.e., choir?) that you really dont need.

yeah definitely talk to them

Well my church was in Queens and the way they do it in queens is that there are a few places that do it, my church didnt do it at their own church, and you go on a site and are able to pick any of the locations or schedule that you want. Hopefully you can do the same.
