Church - Vent

I haven't posted much lately...just got back from vacation in Puerto Rico.

Everytime I call my Church and the Church where I want to get married they always tell me oh don't worry you have plenty of time so finally today I called and I asked the lady if she could at least put me in the book so that I can start planning knowing I have the Church (white lie, lol). But seriously she wanted me to call back 6 months before my wedding...I would be a nervous wreck!!!

Sorry but it's just frustrating...just book the date and I will stop calling, lol.

Lucky girl, how was it?

I can't believe you're church wanted to do that? Is it necessary to get married in that particular church...that would scare me away!

I had a similar problem... I was calling and calling and a priest would never call me back. So finally I told the receptionist at the rectory that I'm trying to do the right thing by booking the church first but they're making it very difficult. I'm not a parishoner there but would like to be but I'm not even getting a call back regarding to steps in that direction... 10 minutes later, I got a call back from the deacon.

Stern but still pleasant.... but I understand how frustrating it is.

mine said something similar...they said they dont have an '08 calendar book yet...so we're just a post it note in the end of the '07 book...kinda dumb. so i call every once in a while to confirm and will cont to do so until this fall...its rather annoying. and im sure it will be fine, but i would rather take it upon myself to call and be annoying then not end up with a church and not know it. its their own fault for not having a new date book...so they can deal with my annoying calls.

I find with the church persistence is key. Although my church only recently started putting in dates for 2008 weddings, so maybe your church will soon??

I know how you feel. The woman at the rectory knows me by voice now!!! I just want to get it done!!!!

Wow, I can't believe how some churches are I booked my church in May of LAST YEAR...I was the first 08 wedding that they marked down but I never thought they could possibly give any problems. Wow then St. Kilian's is pretty on top of things.....shout out to Father Todd

We had a problem too. The first church I wanted to get marrie din kept telling me they didn't have there books then I finally called after like 3 weeks of them not returning my calls and the preist called me and told me that was there baptizmal day....yeah they know this 2- 1/2 years in advance?? Then my second church I kept calling and leaving my info for the lady and she would never call me and they would say she is in meeting after meetings. then finally i got through to her and then she said the preidt would call me. about 3 weeks of this and then i called and got a little pissed at her and that night at 9:30 he called!!! so we finally got booked.

Thanks ladies...I needed to vent, lol.

My Church has to give me a letter saying it's ok for me to go to another Church and when I called the third time they finally took my number down and had a Priest get back to me and he said sure it'll take 10 minutes.

I called the other Church (where I actually want to get married) and I told her that my Aunt worked there and that I needed the date secured so I can book everything else without losing money so she finally said ok just send a check, lol....so I finally got it but so far this was the most annoying part of my planning, LMAO.

I went to Puerto Rico for my friend's wedding for a week....it's was nice, high 80's all week.

FsGirl, I feel your pain. I started calling my church in January and no one would ever call me back, and I'm really active with my church. I've been attending this parish my whole life, so I was really hurt that they were giving me such a hard time.

Finally, I got in touch with my priest, but he was very mean to me. I got really upset, cried about the whole thing, and my father called the churchf or me and got a different priest at the parish to call me back. He apologized profusely, explained that it was a personality problem, and set everything up right away. Since the 2008 book isn't open yet, I'm also a post-it note at the back of 2007.

Unfortunately, a lot of priests have no idea that it takes more than 6 months to plan a wedding. Ridiculous, right? Don't give up hope! Be persistent, or just find a nice priest from the parish to speak to personally. They can't turn you away if you're standing right in front of them!

I am so sorry that you girls are having problems!

I booked my church in January of 2006. They did not have a 2008 book yet and I was the first 2008 bride but they wrote it in the back of the 2007 book. I called this January to confirm that they wrote me in to the 2008 book and they did already.

I can't believe they are giving you a hard time since my priest was so thrilled that we booked the church before the hall ( this is my parish and the only church i wanted to get married in)

Maybe you can just go down there one day and ask to speak with someone instead of over the phone?
