FH and I arent very religious at all. However, I've always envisioned a church wedding. What are you girs doing? Does it save alot of money to skip the church part?

Re: church vs RH ceremony
I am having it at a church and I am not religious - I am skipping the mass. It is costing us $600 which will cost you about the same at the RH and I don't know if that includes the officiant.

Re: church vs RH ceremony
this is hard, its just personal preference i think. Go with your heart on this one. AS far as saving money, dont think it really does. Its about the same from what i see. When you get married at your Rh they still charge you a ceremony fee, plus you have to hire an officiant and pay for him, and then alot of ppl get extra flowers for their ceremonies at an RH. So overall will be about the same.
to answer your question, I got married in a church. I know this was important to Dh and his family, they are more religious. Which is also why i agreed to a catholic ceremony although i am not.

Re: church vs RH ceremony
the church is a suggested donation. i have heard people give from $300-$500 but it depends on the church. my RH charges $800. FH is not confirmed so we were going to do it at the botanical gardens which charges $350 but you can only have 50 people with you & since he is an only child & i am the first girl on my moms side to get married we can see this as a potentially big problem. so i think we are back to searching for a church that will marry us even though only one of us in confirmed.

We are not religious either and wanted to get married on the water so we are getting married at the RH. That will hold deeper meaning for us than a church wedding. It's all personal choice. The RH threw in our ceremony for free which helped out a lot.

Re: church vs RH ceremony
I am not religious, but I also always envisioned a church wedding. My parents are religious (go to church every Sunday) as are FH's parents.
Since I am not against it in any way, I think we are going to have the church ceremony. It would mean a lot to our families and for all of the love and support they've given us, its the least I can do!!

Re: church vs RH ceremony
Neither of us are very religious, so we are having our ceremony at the RH hall. I will admit i'm sad about not getting married in a church, although I cant quite pinpoint why.

Re: church vs RH ceremony
if i could predict the weather and ensure i could have the ceremony outside...i would forego the church. but in early nov...i dont know what the weather will be like. and i dont love inside RH ceremonies.

I am not religious and either is FH, but his family is-if it were up to his parents we would be getting married at their church.
But its not up to them, so we are getting married at the RH, plus i like the fact of having everything at the same spot

Re: church vs RH ceremony
90% of FH & I doing it at the RH.
I want more creative control, input & things I can do and most churches aren't allowing things I want (music).

Re: church vs RH ceremony
Cost wise it is about the same. I am paying about $600 for my church. We are just doing the ceremony though. We are both catholic and our families wouuld probably have a hard time w/ us getting married at the RH.

no $500 is the donation, you dont pay a fee just to use the church. Its $500 about and then music and officiant fee which is about $200...its weird bc they only asked us for the donation and in the end didnt pay for the other stuff.

Re: church vs RH ceremony
We are getting married in a church, when all is said and done, its about $1000. Most RHs wanted in the $1k range to have a ceremony there so I would say its about even in price.

Re: church vs RH ceremony
i'm jewish, DH is not -- i didnt feel comfortable getting married in a church and he didnt feel comfortable getting married in a temple so getting married at the hall was an easy compromise. my family is more religious than DH's, so he decided he was cool with having a jewish ceremony officiated by a rabbi only. I think a wedding at the hall can be great for interfaith marriages.
we also had a lot of OOTers, so it was easier for our guests to have both at the same location.
we went to a wedding with a full catholic mass at a gorgeous cathedral last month, and it was amazing

We aren't too religious either but we met at our catholic highschool so it only seems fitting we get married in the catholic church. But I also know that if we didn't get married in the church it would crush both set of parents and grandparents!

Re: church vs RH ceremony
We aren't very religious but we both grew up catholic so we are getting married in the church. I does mean something to us in a way, plus it's the church that I grew up in - baptism, communion, and confirmation. FH is originally from New Hampshire so it doesn't count for him lol. They are charging us 450 for the use of the church and 250 for music. So 700 total. I don't know what reception halls charge though so I can't help there.
