Cocktail Hour Music

Hi, I was wondering if music during cocktail hours have to be instrumental? I was thinking of more slow dance type like music, but would that conflict with the people talking? Thanks!

Many people get jazz bands or a sinatra singer. I was thinking of having a quartet, but people will be talking over the music and no one will appreciate it.
My DJ said they will provide CH music, so I guess I won't need the extra expense.

I'm having a flute quartet but wouldn't recommend anything with words and a singer b/c people will be talking at same time and it will amount to noise instead of sounding like music. Instrumental music by a DJ would be the best way to go if you are counting the $$$.

I work as a bartender at a caterer so I see at least 1 cocktail hr per weekend (sometimes more) and I would definitely recommend instrumental.

I too would recommend only instrumental - the DJ company that we booked told us that when we wanted to hire a saxaphonist for the CH - he said he would be lost in the corner with all that goes on at the CH - hope that helped!

No not necessarily. My DJ company is setting up speakers all around the room for cocktail hour and will play low background music. If you are having a DJ you should see if they can do something like that or if your having a band, maybe they can play some soft music for you.
