Cocktail Hour time on invite?

Cocktail Hour time on invite?

The person I am getting my invites from suggested that the cocktail hour time be a 1/2 hour earlier on the invite. Is anyone else doing this? Do you think its a good idea?

nope, I'm putting the exact time it starts. If you're late, you're late.

No..I am putting the real time the cocktail hour starts

Real time. As a punctual person, I resent when people 'trick' others. Why should the punctual person have an extra half hour to kill because some people are irresponsible with time?!

Yea I was thinking that too. I mean for the people who would come at the earlier time wouldnt just be hanging around. The hall has a wine and cheese lounge that guests can enjoy before the actual cocktail hour begins so Im on the fence about it. Thanks for your replies!

I've heard of people putting an earlier ceremony time on their invites, but never cocktail hour.

If you put an earlier cocktail hour time, you have to make sure your RH can accomodate those that do arrive at the time the invite states.

I put the real start time. If someone is late it's their loss.

I put an early ceremony time because I don't want stragglers walking in during the ceremony...but if we were having the reception at a different venue I would put the time it starts...its different to be late for food than it is to be late for the actual wedding.

I am doing the same....I'm putting the time it actually starts

I'm getting married in the church so I am not worried about people arriving late to my ceremony, also my RH is going to have a pre-cocktail ready in case I get some guest arriving a bit earlier which at that time they will provide Champagne and strawberries and a cheese platter before the actual cocktail hour begins.

edited since I am a horrible speller

I would not do this nor have I heard of it. It;s customary to put the ceremony time a half hour before but not cocktail hour.

Im going to put the exact time on mine. I think if anything I might do earlier for church.

I put the actual time it starts on the invite- whoever is late, is late.

actual time for me too...then again my ceremony and reception are at the same location haha woopsy but IMO, you should print the actual time for your reception on your invite. it is of poor etiquette to request that your guests be there half an hour before the party actually starts.

I put a half hour earlier for my ceremony but not the CH...I'm gettin married at RH so CH starts right after ceremony

I'm having everything done in one venue. I will definitely put an extra half hour on the invite. I know my family and friends, and they are always, ALWAYS late to everything. I was even late to my own engagement party because of my parents and siblings. Therefore I will be telling them that it starts a half hour earlier as well. It's always better to be early than late. Especially if the RH is telling you that they have a waiting area with food for early guests.

For some reason it seems to be common knowledge in our families that parties never really begin at the appointed time. I definitely will not take the chance that they will change that frame of mind.

well our CH starts at 7 but the RH says people can start arriving at 6:30. I was thinking about putting 6:30 on the invite but still not 100% sure.

I recommend putting the correct time --- the reception hall is catering for folks to arrive at a certain time and uping the event time might be a crowd control issue for them
