cocktail hr

cocktail hr

Last night my mom tells me that having the bride and groom present during the cocktail hour isn't traditional. She insists that the bride and groom shouldn't be announced until the Reception starts. What do you think. Is it a do to go the cocktail hour as the bride and groom, or wait until after the cocktail hour and be announced.

I am fighting with FH b/c he doesn't want to go but I am paying alot of money and am not missing it! Plus you can go around and say your hellos there and be able to enjoy the rest of the party.

I'm sure it's against tradition...but everyone I know has made an effort to make it to their cocktail party. My sister spread her church far out enough from CH so she wouldnt miss it. My friend insisted her photographer stop taking photos to make it. When you pay a fortune for your wedding...you should get to try out all the great food. Besides...it's the best time to get the hello's out of the way.

Re: cocktail hr

tradition or not its your decision...I am traditional in the sense that I want the dramatic effect of being introduced for the first time into the reception! The point about the 'money' is null to me because
1-the money spent is for my guest to have a great time and
2-there will be plenty of food in the bridal suite brought to me and fh as well as our party to enjoy without being in the ch
honestly...i went to my friends wedding and she stayed for the ch...she was so busy stopping to say hi that she didnt eat anyway so what does that have to do with money...jmo

I also plan to take some pics at that time...so I am def not going into until the grand entrance!

that is fine if you want to go to the ch but I think you kind of still have to do the table to table thing too...some people may not make the ch and its the proper thing to do... sorry

I think that tradition or not, it's up to you and your DH . These days I think more s and s go to their CH than not. A lot of couples pay for their own wedding and don't want to miss any part of it It's also a great time to get some hellos in!!! Just be warned though....GL trying to eat something...we went to ours and barely ate anything at all because so many of our guests came up to us to say congrats!!

i want to see what im paying for - even if i dont taste a thing - my fsil didnt even get to see the room set up for hers and that really upset her....she was going to, but was too busy with pics...

but anyway, you can still have a good entrance into the reception....its not any less exciting for your guests - they already saw you during the ceremony - its not like they dont know what you look like already i think its kind of silly to have to hide out....im not traditional though, so thats my opinion.....i think its nice that the bride and groom wnat to mingle with their guests! im def going to our CH

I refuse to lock myself in the bridal suite during CT hour. Don't get me wrong..the room is beautiful, and they will have food but nothing compares to the food that will be outside I'm going out and enjoying myself! The wedding is only 4 hours..I'm taking advantage of the entire thing

It is really up to you and what you want to do nothing is 'right or wrong' because it is your day . I did not go to mu CH bc we were taking pictures during that time and I wanted to make our grand entrance as Mr & Mrs during the reception.

yeah, it's not 'traditional' for bride & groom to be in CH, but I don't really care. We'll probably start joining people anyway, even though we still won't be technically ANNOUNCED until afterwards. In my opinion, it doesn't matter at all. People have seen you in the church already. It's not like if they see you in the CH they're not gonna applause and be excited when you come into the hall afterwards.

I'm going back and forth with the idea.. I don't think there's anything wrong with going and I think it's ok not to go as well. My mom doesn't really want me to go though.

I've heard of that, but I'm a lil too traditional for that. I am most looking forward to the doors of the church opening and my FH seeing me for the first time.

I am not going to see my FH before the church. I want him to be surprised when he see's me. My Fh wants to go to the cocktail hour but I am thinking now that it might be nice to wait to be introduced as the new Mr. and Mrs. at the reception. I guess I'm just going to have to think about it.
