cocktail hr

Original post by MnM182008

Last night my mom tells me that having the bride and groom present during the cocktail hour isn't traditional. She insists that the bride and groom shouldn't be announced until the Reception starts. What do you think. Is it a do to go the cocktail hour as the bride and groom, or wait until after the cocktail hour and be announced.

we went to 1/2 of our ch, and it was a great decision. We had are ceremony at the RH, and right after the ceremony, we went up to the bridal suite for a few minutes alone. There was a spread of food for us, and my bridal attendant brought us anything we were missing. We stayed up there for 15-20 minutes, and then went outside. It was the perfect balance. We enjoyed the time alone, and also really enjoyed being at our ch. We took pics before the ceremony.

This is what we are doing. We are going to have our alone time to eat and enjoy each other for a few minutes and then attend the rest of the cocktail hour. I figure if we dont get some alone time, we will never get to eat..

DH and I chose not to go to ours. Our entire BP arrived 15 minutes into the start of CH. All of them went in and mingled and DH and I were the only two in the bridal suite, which was set up with food and cocktails just for us. Honestly, it was the nicest 30 odd minutes of the day, just the two of us for a few quiet minutes

We decided not to go to the Ch and keep 'tradition' but mostly because we want time to ourselves before we get announced. Either way we feel even if we went to the CH we would still have to say hi to everyone at the tables because some people don't make it to the CH or you greet one person in a couple and not the other.....

Do whatever makes you happy. My DH and I were at our cocktail hour. We didn't want to miss a minute of our reception and was able to greet our guests before we got into the reception room. It worked out beautifully for us.

i don't know about tradition, but i do know that i will be at my cocktail hour - all one and half hours of it! sometimes ch is the best part!

I agree! I left a long time in between ceremony and ch so that I could be there for it....it isn't the most traditional, but are you more concerned with that or enjoying every second of your day??

I want to enjoy it all!!!
