Last night my mom tells me that having the bride and groom present during the cocktail hour isn't traditional. She insists that the bride and groom shouldn't be announced until the Reception starts. What do you think. Is it a do to go the cocktail hour as the bride and groom, or wait until after the cocktail hour and be announced.

Re: cocktail hr
sure its against tradition, but I want to go to at least most of it. I want to say my hellos to the distant relatives and friends then (and eat all the good food), then I can enjoy my night w/ FH dancing and partying. I dont wanna be walking around for 2 hours at the reception saying my hellos.
also, we hired an acoustic guitarist for the CH,and I really want to hear him play..

DH and I chose not to go to ours. Our entire BP arrived 15 minutes into the start of CH. All of them went in and mingled and DH and I were the only two in the bridal suite, which was set up with food and cocktails just for us. Honestly, it was the nicest 30 odd minutes of the day, just the two of us for a few quiet minutes

Re: cocktail hr
there's no writte rule of whether you should or shouldn't attend your CH. I mean you're spending SO much money, you might as well be able to enjoy your CH and greet your guests so you have the time and ability to enjoy your entire wedding! Sometimes CH is the best part of a wedding, and there's nothing wrong with being apart of your own lol, I know we definitely will be!

Re: cocktail hr
we spent the first 25 min together in the bridal suite, and then went down to the CH for the rest (until we had to leave early to get ready for our entrance). wish we spent more time at the CH!
didnt get to eat anything but got to mingle with people and see the set-up, which was lots of fun.
tradition, shmadition -- DH had never been to a NY wedding so I didnt want him to miss out on the CH! the best part

Re: cocktail hr
we went to 1/2 of our ch, and it was a great decision. We had are ceremony at the RH, and right after the ceremony, we went up to the bridal suite for a few minutes alone. There was a spread of food for us, and my bridal attendant brought us anything we were missing. We stayed up there for 15-20 minutes, and then went outside. It was the perfect balance. We enjoyed the time alone, and also really enjoyed being at our ch. We took pics before the ceremony.

sounds perfect...this is what I am thinking..the ch is no time for the bride and groon to eat...its just not possible with all the 'congrats and hellos' ! i wanna relax in the suite..eat a bit..because i am thinking nreves will keep me from pigging out as usual...lol...and have some time with my new hubby....then be introduces in a grand dramatic way and party the night away! i will do the walk around from table to table...but this wont take all night...i have been to weddings before and its all about time managements....its just a receiving line if ya think about it..but with people at tables...lol

Re: cocktail hr
we did not attend out cocktail hour.. and took pics instead.. we didn't eat a morsel during our cocktail hour and DH created our menu from scratch.. guests are raving about our cocktail and called it cruise ship menu.. and to think we didn't even taste it..
if nothign is holding you back, do attend your cocktail..

FH and I will be seeing eachother before the ceremony and getting pics out of the way so we can go to our CH. Otherwise we'll spend 1/2 the wedding saying hello to people and won't be able to enjoy any of it. Thats just my opinion.

Re: cocktail hr
We were busy taking all of our pics during the CH. We did however take a walk through when there was no one in the room to see it set up. After the pics I think we had 10 minutes left and we enhaled the food in the suite. After the announcements we partied the entire night, and didn't stop for pics which was really nice.

i think times are def changing - a few years ago it was unheard of to see eachother before the ceremony and now its the trend...same for attending CH....
our CH is 1.5 hours long so we are attending about 30 minutes of it - spend another 30 minutes alone - and then we 30 minutes to play with - maybe take some pics, relax, stay in the CH, depending on what we feel like doing - its nice we'll get our alone time where we can eat AND we get to mingle and see how everything looks - there is no way im going to actually eat once we are in there, we will be to busy saying hello - we are going to eat right after the ceremony in the bridal suite alone and then head down....
