Cocktail reception

Now that I have finally arranged my affair I am helping my best friend arrange her wedding. Ladies has anyone planned a coctail reception. I heard this is becoming popular and since in most places the cocktail hour is the best she thought she would eliminate the whole sit down course after course dinner. I was wondering though since it is only cocktails should she cut down on the total #of hours for the whole affair, where does timing for the cake cutting, garter and bouquet toss fall in to place. She is worried about how people will feel about coming to a shorten version of a wedding reception. Any ideas, comments would help as the MOH I'm just tryin to ease her nerves. Thanks ladies

Cocktail reception

I've been to quite a few and they have always been lovely and successful. Four hours is adequate. Elegant, less formal, more enjoyable and spontaneous. The 'events' of cutting the cake, etc. can still be scheduled, but seem more spontaneous. Good luck

Cocktail reception

I have been to a cocktail reception and my only complaint was there was no place to sit. This is probably a problem that is specific to the catering hall, but I would just make sure there are a few cocktail tables around that people can sit down and eat at. It is hard to eat while holding a drink in your hand! My date and I had to keep holding each others drinks so we could eat. They also had all the traditional stuff that would be at a dinner reception. father/daughter dances, bouquet toss, etc. and it worked out fine. It was timed just as a dinner reception would be.

Cocktail reception - where to have one?

I think a cocktail reception is the most fun kind of party to attend and would like to have one myself instead of a full dinner. However, it has been my experience so far that catering halls do not want to host one, because the prices would be less.

Cocktail reception - where to have one?

My original wish was to have a cocktail reception, but I ended up with the full-fledged dinner/event. Some places I looked at were regular restaurants and the Nassau County Museum of Art in Roslyn.
