Completely on edge

Last Wednesday, I submitted an essay to Self magazine for their 'self-expression' section. I'm going to send a follow up email on the 21st, but I check my email every five minutes, hoping to hear anything from them.

I have been tempted to write something for them for a long time, but I am a chicken.

writing is the only thing I ever thought I might be good at. to have someone tell me I'm not would do all sorts of evil things to my sense of self.

I couldn't handle the rejection. you are far braver than I ever could be (and that's why a far better writer, no doubt )

It took me years to write something - seriously, three years. I'd start and then stop but nothing felt right. So I a few weeks ago, I started a piece about writing - my journal and how I use it, how it's affecting my marriage.

Rejection is so very hard; if your writing is rejected, then in a way, it feels like they are rejecting YOU. At least, that's how I'd feel.

But I keep writing. I have to.

p.s. I agree, a rejection of my work (whether it be writing or otherwise) is taken as a rejection of me.

in my field, you have to have a very thick skin - I get bashed on a regular basis!!!
