I went to my regular doctor today because my leg is still not 100%. I figured they might know a bit more than a midwife about this stuff. Well it turns out I never had a pulled muscle (though the symptons are similar). My little peanut has decide to make femmel (sp??) nerve its home and the pressure is causing all of the pain. And she said it will probably continue to get worse as I get bigger and more full of baby. I have an appt. w/the orthopedist on Friday morning so he can confirm her findings. And if so, I will be telecommuting for a while- which is not such a bad thing. I am just afriad of waking up with that intense pain again!! I need to stay off of it and NOT be in a seated position for very long to try and prevent it for getting to that point again.

OMG - I am so sorry, I hope they are able to help you....a family member had this except it was a nerve in her back for the last few months of her pregnancy, i think it was the Sciatic (sp?) nerve. hope you feel better

Ouch Michele! Poor thing --- it's the femoral nerve you're compressing. We see a lot of PG women in my office (physical therapy) with the same thing. Can you ask your MD for a script for PT? It should only be a few visits -- they'll do some stretching and massage and give you a few exercises and stretches to do at home. Feel Weel!

Re: Compressed Nerve- so the doctor thinks
FleeFlee- the doctor said that she doesn't think it will just go away even if my peanut moves to another spot. if I go to P/T does it go away? Or is it just more manageable. The doctor is worried that the commute (3 trains) is making this situation worse for me.

Oh wow, I could totally understand how your commute would add stress to the situation. I hope you feel better and let me know when you get back to work, I'll have to make sure I'm at the subway station the same time!

Oh Michele I am sorry for your pain. When I saw your post the other day on the newlywed board, I wondered if it had something to do with your pregnancy.
Just take care of yourself and hopefully the little one will choose a new position soon!
a friend of ours had a problem with her sciatica (sp?) I have no idea if its related to your nerve...but she would have someone pull on her legs to relieve some of the stress...
have you ever thought about a PG message?

Re: Compressed Nerve- so the doctor thinks
This is just a bit different but I do have a pg massage on Saturday at 11am. I CANNOT wait. All of this laying down is killing my back. I ran to Michael's today to get some stuff for the shower I am hosting and that was not my best idea. Ouch. This is going to be a LONG few months.

Re: Compressed Nerve- so the doctor thinks
I'm sure commuting is going to make it more difficult. As far as PT -- at the very least it should make it more manageable and also prevent it from getting worse (and help with compensatory pains i.e. back pain from lying down); but often it does clear up over the course of a few weeks. Enjoy your massage!! Where are you going?

Re: Compressed Nerve- so the doctor thinks
Atlantis in St. James I am also the World's Worst PT Patient of all time It's true-I am not in the 'no pain, no gain' club. I used to have to go for my arm surgeries and I was the one who was there saying 'Nope. I am not going to do that' 'sorry that is going to hurt. You have to figure out somethine else'.

Re: Compressed Nerve- so the doctor thinks
Can you explain to me the pain you're feeling in your leg? I'm 34 weeks and recently I've got shooting pains up my leg. The doctor said it's normal but she didn't exactly explain the cause. It really hurts though!!!! Sometime it feels like my legs are going to buckle under me. Is this the same thing you're feeling?
