so, Fh's BIL said that he went to 2 weddings at JT and while they were both very nice...he said the difference in cocktail hours was what really made one wedding better than the other. he says we really should have a seafood bar bc the difference is night and day. but thats extra $$$ and we're struggling as is to pay for this wedding.
now I'm bummed out bc I'm worried after all this money we're spending people will still say we had a sucky CH or whatever bc we couldn't afford to add on extras.
nothing is ever good enough

my mom tells me again and again, no matter what you add, no matter how much money you spend there will be those 'Complainers''that will always find something to complain about. So dont worry - your CH will be amazing - with or wihtout the seafood boat :)

I think that's just his opion... Yes, the seafood bar is great- but totally not a necessity. We've been to weddings where the food has been amazing & so much of it and the overall wedding was good. But some of the best weddings I've been to- we danced all night & barely remembered to food!!

Ummm, I can't really imagine that a seafood bar is going to make the difference between a good CH and a great one.
I say, stop listening to what people are telling you you SHOULD do and do what you CAN and WANT to do. No one will notice that there is no seafood bar, trust me!

Did you forget what is included in your CH? Open you binder they gave you! Tell FH's BIL that if he wants the seafood bar, then he should pay for it.

Just remember... that's ONE person's opinion! Don't force yourselves to struggle to make everyone else happy. As long as you're happy, who cares!

the seafood bar might have been the highlight for that one guest, but theres always a ton of food during CH. Your guests will still enjoy it. (and not everyone likes seafood).

you hit it gabbie!!! that is so true don't worry about what other people think. who cares if they wanted a seafood boat. if ya can't afford it then you don't need it. that is how i look at things
and we at one point have to stop worrying about what other people think about OUR WEDDINGS!! It is NOT their wedding and they are NOT paying for it so they should have nothing to say. You are being nice enough and inviting them!!!
So don't be so down about the CH. Do what you can afford and that break the bank.

Do what you can afford and don't let other people influence you? It will be wonderful.

i dont think you should worry at all. MOST people wont notice there is no seafood bar. When i go to CH, i only notice what they have and dont sit there thinking 'OH NO theres no seafood bar'

thanks hun! doesn't it suck that you could spend an entire years income and then some to give people a night of free drinks and amazing food and dancing and somehow its still not good enough?
oh well, it is what it is...i'm not starting my marriage in debt to add a seafood boat I'll probrably never get a chance to see.

So true. I always leave a CH stuffed. Although, I did go to a wedding where the CH was cheese and crackers

aww dont stress out- the seafood bar could just be that patricular persons preference it is only their opinion certain things people take notice to where are others may not even be concerened with the variety I am sure JT offers a lot for the hour- it goes by so fast anyway with everyone socializing and having a good time I dont think many will think it is a big deal where in actuality it really isn't it matters what you and fh think
cheer up chicky!

that is absolutely true, there will always be people who complain about something, no matter how extravagant the wedding is. As long as you and fh are happy, that is all that matters.

Re: concerned about cocktail hr
Please do not let what FH's BIL said get you down! For our CH we did not add anything - the only seafood at the CH was the paella, because we don't eat seafood, and there were 2 seafood entree options. Everyone we've spoken to about the wedding loved the food at CH, the only complaint we heard was that the lines were long (small room for 100 people).

Re: concerned about cocktail hr
Someone has to be really low to say their wedding was bad for not having certain foods at the cocktail hour. You watch, he'll be full by dinner b/c of all the food he ate at the cocktail hour
Dont worry about what everyone else is saying.
In one ear and out the other!!!

Re: concerned about cocktail hr
i dont think it will make or break the CH - yes some people look foward to the seafood but not every guest will be looking for it - you cant please everyone - to be honest the seafood is the one thing that i wanted that we arent doing - i dont remember the price pp they charge but it was more than a thousand dollars to add and there is no way that our guests are going to eat a thousand dollars or more worth of seafood - dont stress it - you arent the only person who isnt doing it and there will be so many other things for your guests to eat - people will make their comments no matter what - so who gives a $h!t

Re: concerned about cocktail hr
then if it makes such a big deal to BIL--tell HIM to PAY FOR IT!!!!
honestly---its VERY easy for people to tell you what you should and shouldn't do when their wallets aren't being affected. eff him---he's not paying and he should learn to keep his mouth shut. don't let him worry you at all.

Ignore him. It may be a little extra bonus but it is just his opinion. It is noth worth killing your budget over! I am not adding extras onto my wedding.

Re: concerned about cocktail hr
I would never even notice if there was one or not....there is so much food at these cocktails hours - its really disgusting. Acutally IMO the difference between a good wedding and a GREAT wedding is the bride and groom and what you make of it!
