Concerns

Just needed to vent a little worries I have regarding the bridesmaids dresses. My matron of honor and her daughter, our flowergirl, are unable to make it in from out of town as scheduled for next week. However, at the same time, my only other girl in the party is getting bigger by the day as she is pregnant. So, what do I do about their dresses? Should both girls try on the dress before ordering it, or should I just have the local gal try it and order it for both? (The bridal shop already has my matron of honor's measurements, but not the flowergirl's). And what do I do about the fowergirl? How can we predict how much she'll grow by September? And how can we predict what size the pregnant gal will be after delivering? How much time before the wedding should the dresses be ordered? I know alot of places say about 9 months out, but does everyone really do it that far out? Any advice or suggestions are greatly appreciated.
I've done portraits outside many times in Dec./Jan./Feb. The number of times that there are bad rain/snow days are really minimal. The worst I ever had was 10/19/96. We had a monsoon! I had five weddings scheduled that day! (The most in a day that year!) It was a mess, but somehow it all worked. One that I did @ Oheka that day the band didn't make to. Didn't matter. Pictures were great and everyone is still happy. Don't worry. It all works out somehow. Tis a mystery, but it really does.

Thanks Kristi. I wanted to have this done last month when my matron of honor was here, only the other girl was working and we didn't have the flowergirl with us when we went out because we figured we'd take her on their next trip up, which was supposed to be next week. It really never is too early to start anything in this game! Hopefully they'll be able to schedule a trip up in the next couple of weeks or so.

I definitely agree with you though about taking in a dress. The only thing I worry about, is how much extra room to give them. I certainly don't want to overcompensate either.

Have you asked the bridal shop? They should be best able to tell you how to handle the sizing problem for both your mother-to-be attendant and the flower girl. I'm sure most places have dealt with these things before. If it does entail a larger size being altered, check to see that the shop has a cap on alterations. Mine does and I think it is around $30. I agree with Kristi, you can have the out of towners get measured at a local bridal place and send you the measurements (It's worth the nominal fee to have a professional seamstress take the measurements). We are doing that for tuxes for 2 of our ushers. You're right, it's never too early to have something out of the way but if it makes you feel any better, we ordered BM dresses in September and they were in in November. My dress, I ordered in July and it came in in November too. Good luck.

Thanks Elizabeth, that does make me feel better. I certainly don't want to wait until 2 months before the wedding, but I guess I can give us another month to see what develops. Of course, my mother-to-be should go in now to be measured and to try the dress that I think might work for everyone.

But I think I might give my out-of-towners (MOH & Flowergirl) time to see the dress. My matron of honor was already measured when she was here last, but I'd prefer for her to meet the other girl and for them to decide if they really like the dress that I think I found.

Do you have a pic you can send her? Or better yet, find out if a bridal shop in her area carries the dress and have her stop in there to see it. What color are you going with for their dresses? I love to hear what everyone picks out.

Good Luck with your search!

I just emailed her a picture. Check it out and tell me what you think. It's the one in the bottom right corner, in yellow, only we're going with burgundy.

Go to USPS.com to check them out or buy them (after 1/31) There is a handling fee for ordering them on-line but it might be worth it to get all you need at once!

How do you match fabric, color and style when going 'off the rack' for the flowergirl? This is very important to us. We have chosen burgundy as the color and have already told our flowergirl she is getting the same dress as her mommy, my matron of honor, who has said she doesn't want to put her in white, which is fine with me. I like the idea of having the flowergirl match.

I am very critical of detail and don't want to get stuck with a dress for her that is a different fabric or shade than what my other girls are wearing.

If that is the case, you should order the dress a size or two (maybe even three) sizes bigger than her estimated size. It is better to have it too big than too small. The girl's pediatrician should be able to give you a fairly good estimate of how big she will be when you get married. I am just buying off the rack, my flower girl is only 5-1/2 months old now, but she will be 16 months when I get married (I know it is a little young, but she's my only niece.)

Dan,

I have been around this site since I began planning my wedding in Sept. or so. When it came time to book vendors for the wedding, we met with a few djs, which included Spin Around Sound and Parameters. We choose Parameters because we liked his sense of what will pack a dance floor and what might empty it. I have been very excited about our decision to book Eddie with Parameters and have been a strong supporter since signing with him back in the fall.

I think that will be cute! My nephew is going to be our ringbearer, and he will only be 19 months when we get married. He's not only our only nephew, he's also our Godson.

We signed with Eddie in the fall and I have often mentioned his name to those looking for djs on this site, just as I have with anyone looking for a place on the water, or a photographer, or a videographer, or a florist.

I am sure he will look adorable. My nephew (also my godson) will be 4-1/2 and will be escorting the flower girl (his sister) up the aisle. I can't wait to see them, they are going to look so cute.

Please e-mail me and let me know what the procedure is for informing the winner of the $1,000 contest. Also, when does it become common knowledge.

Good point! I certainly don't plan on ever wearing my bridal gown again! LOL

That's awesome! It sounds like us, only backwards since my niece is going to be 4 1/2 when we get married! Like you, I can't wait to see the two going down the aisle together. She will be escorting him.

Wishing you and yours a Happy New Year and a wonderful wedding day!!
