Confirmation Class

Confirmation Class

Well...I was never confirmed so now I have to go to confirmation classes for 4 weeks and then receive my confirmation on May 27th. I have a question for all of you. Those of you who are getting married in a church...do you have faith? I mean whatever your religion is...do you have 'faith'? I honestly don't get it. I'm not trying to be difficult...I was raised Catholic and so was FH. Both of our families have faith...pray all the time. I don't mean like holy rollers who go to church every Sunday and pray in public or before meals. They just have 'faith'. They BELIEVE. I know I keep saying that because thats how I see it. I feel we are getting married in a church for the 'wrong' reasons. I can't imagine getting married anywhere else...but...am I the only one who is just going with the flow and doesn't really 'get' it?

Re: Confirmation Class

We are going with the flo and getting married in my parish that I grew up in. We used to go to church because we 'had' to. We went to class to make our communion, confirmation etc but my FH is not religious at all and didnt make his confirmation. He went to all of the classes and makes it on the 27th too! I guess its love that got him through it! I have faith, but I dont practice, but I hope that when we have a family we will become church-goers again.

I am not a church person either. I am getting married in a church mainly...for our families. Also the fact that when i lok back at my pics....i wanna see that! My hall does a nice set up but growing up i always pictured myself walking in and out of the church. I am not a big believer in it all myself but it will be nice to get married the the church. My family doesnt care eother way but FH family are die hard church people. his mom says the roseary like 5 times a day and they go to church every sunday all that suff. We are just lucky she didnt make a stink that we are going to a lutheran church and not catholic ( i am lutherand he is catholic). You should just do what you want!!

So you 'get it' then? I mean when you pray...you really believe you are praying to someone? I always seem to look at prayer as people do it to make themselves 'feel' better. I'm really just trying to understand...please nobody look at me like I'm crazy.

Ok...I hear ya...I'm kind of doing the same thing...I always imagined it would be in a church and I want the pics in a church...but its not really the right reasons ya know...I'm not going to change it...I guess I'm just trying to understand how people believe.

If you are asking if I believe in God, the answer is yes. Does he hear me or people when they pray? I dont know, each person has their own beliefs and you will probably touch on that in your class. Religion is a personal topic and if you want to learn about it, I am sure your parish has those opportunities to do so. Take advantage of it, you seem very interested so why not?

I agree....the priest is best to speak to, I'm sure he will give you great advice.

Re: Confirmation Class

Thanks girls...I was just curious what 'regular' girls going through the same thing were feeling. I don't think it's something you learn...I always thought of faith as something you just have. I don't feel like I have it. I was just wondering if anyone feels the same.

Sorry I just re-read this all and maybe that came out silly...

But what I was trying to say is that Marriage is a Holy Sacrament...

There are sacraments in the Catholic church that you make to strengthen the G-D and the church in your life. Holy Matrimony is one of them, along with others like Baptism, Communion....etc.,

uhhhh...no...there is not a tax benefit for getting married its actually recognized as a tax penalty.

I'm getting married because I love my FH...and becaused he asked. We want to get up in front of everyone we know and profess our love for each other and make it official. I understand your statement about it being a sacrament...thats what I'm getting at...I just don't 'get it'...maybe understand it would be a better word.

Well...thats the thing I WAS raised Catholic...baptised, communion...youth group...I even played the flute for like 5 years at church every sunday...I kinda went with the flow I guess...now that I'm older and understand what its all about...I realize...I don't have 'faith'...I don't pray. I don't go to church anymore...I don't really know what I'm trying to say...I'm just trying to understand what people with faith have. What makes them believe. I spoke to my FMIL on my way home from the class and she has a tremendous amount of faith and tried to explain it to me and I just didn't get it. Sorry girls...if this is too much...I certainly don't need to continue. I'm just a facts kind of person and I like concrete answers I guess...

I am not catholic so i know nothing about that! lol well whatever. i am with you Kathleen i am getting married because i want to be with steve forever! We are having the church because thats what i have always wanted and because it will be alot less streeful as far as the families go! Also it is alot easier for steve to come into the lutheran church than for me to go into the catholic. So we are having it at a lutheran church. Its so much easier mentally and finacially ( my church doesnt make you pay a 'donation')

Honestly, I have always have faith,, I think its just in me...I've always been interested in reading about it., etc...And dont get me wrong...I have questions that dont have solid answers..but I have found that the Faith helps me get through difficult times., it makes me a better person.

Even if there is no one listening ....Praying gives you hope....and IMO I think its a good foundation for everyone to have.
