Confused! originally posted on 2010 Brides!

I recently became a member of this website because I've been reading all of the Brides' reviews and I find it very helpful. I am aiming for a 2010 wedding. I've looked already at several places but every time i check the reviews sometimes it just makes me doubt I really just sometimes get impatient because I guess I still have more to deal with. My fiancee and I have already looked at the following:

1. Beckwith Pointe (New Rochelle) my FH loves, I like it a lot but don't like the fact the cocktail hour is divided by a sliding wall. This guy named Michael assured their food was great but i've been reading the reviews and haven't heard anything positive.

2. V.I.P Country Club (New Rochelle) we didn't like it too much the guy who gave us the tour wasn't very excited so we kind of found that place boring.

3. Surf Club (New Rochelle) was so gorgeous but still doubtful about the food.

4. Crest Hollow Country Club (Woodbury) it's just so elegant it looks beautiful but when mentioning the food the guy told us 'you should try our appetizers they are awesome because when it comes to the main course chicken is chicken and beef is beef') and it just threw us off!!!

5. Fox Hollow. (Woodbury) the day we saw it apparently they were polishing the floors and it smelled really bad i got a headache. She showed us the Garden Room and we weren't too impress although Scotto Brothers are supposed to cater pretty amazing meals. My FH's brother had his wedding at the Chateau Briand and the food was outstanding!

6.Jericho Terrace. (Mineola) As soon as I walked in i fell like in another world!!! the place is just so elegant I would say a little too elegant but I loved it! My FH thought it was just way over decorated but the guy that showed us the tour and everything was so cool! and we get a lot of choices in food but i don't know if the food is good in Jericho Terrace...I've been reading great things about the food but the attendants and they organizing itself I've been reading that it's a bit messy CAN SOMEONE HELP ME WITH THIS ONE!!!????

7. Leonards (Great Neck) We simply just didn't like this place too much although the price seemed reasonable...

So this is my big dilemma I know i might still have to visit other places but I want to walk into a place that I want to say this is it!!! so far my top choices are the Jericho Terrace and Fox Hollow....can someone please help me!!! this is just too hard!!!! NOW I understand what other brides go thru hehe!!! anyway hope this wasn't too long !! bye

Did you ever see Fliral Terrace? I just had my wedding there and everyone said it was the best food they have ever had at a wedding. It is 1 wedding at a time and the place has a lot of history because it used to be an old theatre.

i like Jericho terrace a lot as well but didnt like the smaller room they were giving me. The BM we had give us a tour was amazing and def would have been great to work with. the only advice i have is go back to your top choices again and see how you feel about them on the second time

It looks like you're looking around the North Shore/Nassau County-ish area...have you looked at the Swan Club in (i think) Roslyn Heights??

It's beautiful, I believe the food is outstanding, and it's in your area...check it out!

I am concerned about the partition wall too now that I booked the RH but I have a solution to cover the wall with sheer fabric which will act as an accent wall and cover it. This seemed like the best option. The food is great and the location on the water is perfect.

Dont pick a place until you are happy but also remeber you may not find the perfect place that will have everything you want and no imperfections.

Dont rush and take your time.

Be happy so you wont second guess yourself later.

The only way you're going to know if the food is good or not is it to try it! Schedule a tasting. All those places are beautiful and you could stop worrying about the food if you asked the BM to schedule a tasting by saying you and your FH are very picky eaters. They should accomodate you. Good luck

Try the Miller Place Inn. Its way out here compared to the other places, but I'm still hearing about how great the place was (10 months later).

Are you planning on getting married at the hall? Are you from the Island or Westchester? Are there any other considerations that you have other than what the venue is like?

Just take your time and try not to worry too much about the opinions of others. I feel like I rushed into picking a place and I wish I would have taken my time a bit more. I ended up booking with JT and I have no regrets. I went to a wedding there before and it was beautiful..plus the food was great. It's kind of like when you are planning a vacation and you go on tripadvisor.com to read reviews. It's helpful but it can really drive you nuts because no matter how great a place is...someone is always going to have an issue with it. I think I can be picky and I have been to hotels that I thought were fabulous but on tripadvisor there was still someone who had a bad experience or just wasn't happy. At the end of the day - go with our gut. Good luck!!!

While the reviews are all very helpful, you can't expect the exact same experience as the person who wrote it. You need to go with what you want and feel is the right place for you. I got married at Fox Hollow. No- my experience wasn't perfect. But If we had to do it all over again, I'd still want to have my wedding there in the Winter Garden Pavillion. It was perfect for us! And, yes, the food was very good! I wish I had eaten more of it!

Hi... I actually saw everyone one of those halls when i was looking to book my wedding. Have you looked at the Fountainhead? It was my second choice place. Gorgeous inside, and the food is known to be A+
If you are looking on LI and like Scotto def try Westbury Manor.
Ive been to a wedding at JT and the food was A++...very good!!!

I would say check out Westbury Manor, Terrace on the Park in Queens is nice, Douglaston Manor also in Queens. Good Luck!

I know how you feel. We looked at so many places before booking our wedding at Fox Hollow. I still check reviews and so far everyone raves about the food and service, but I'm stil nervouse. Our wedding is in Feb so my biggest fear is that it'll snow. One nice perk is that they comp a suite for the bride and groom at the hotel.

Surft Club- went to a wedding there three years ago and the food was amazing. Very nice atmosphere also since it's on the water.

Crest Hollow- Went to a wedding there in July the food was not that impressive. Everyone kept commenting about how the fried calamari tasted like onion rings. However the place is very elegant. Oh another thing about this place and Fox Hollow, the bar tenders are not allowed to give shots. This is one thing I still have an issue with.

Check out Glenn Island in New Rochelle if you're thinking Westchester. I went to a weddig there three weeks ago. The food was awsome and the place is just gorgeous. It's on the water. You'll get great pics because it's very scenic.

Wish I could be more helpful, but these are the only places I've been to. Good Luck :)

I thank everyone for the wonderful replies :) I will def check WM and FT sometime this weekend :)...I don't plan to marry at the hall I Plan to marry in a church my big concern right now is food and the people within the RECEPTION HALL I want them to be easy to work with people and I want the food to be great!

FutureMrs.T Posted:

Re: Confused! originally posted on 2010 Brides!

Its is certainly hard to pick a reception hall. It is hard to do when reading reviews on this website because every bride on here thinks their reception hall is the 'best', 'has the best food', 'does the best wedding ever'. What is good for one person might not be good for another. Of course a bride will suggest the same place that she is getting married and telling you nothing else can beat it.

This is just a decision that you and FH will have to make because ultimately, you will have to be happy with whatever you choose. If you are undecided between a couple halls, call them, tell them that and ask to schedule a food tasting. After you taste the food, you can weigh the differences and decide what is best for you and FH to make your day special to you. JMO

Obv I'm biased toward WM, but I think you'll really love it! It's also a Scotto Bros venue and I know someone that attended a wedding there the other night and said the food and service was out of this world!!! Good luck!
