Confused over getting a wrap or shawl

I went for my second fitting today and I love my strapless dress. BUT I am thinking that it would be logical to have some sort or wrap or shawl since my wedding is in November, but Im not sure if they become more of an annoyance? Did anyone use a wrap? If so how much extra did it cost to be made? or is there a place that sells them in white satin?
Thanks for the help!

Re: Confused over getting a wrap or shawl

I wore a wrap as a BM once, and I HATED it. It drove me nuts. Trying to keep it in position on my shoulders during pictures and walking down the isle, while also holding my flowers - nightmare.

If you are concerned about being cold and just want it to throw around youself, I would go for it. But I found it to be an annoyance when I had one. Thats just me though, if you like the look then go for it.

Re: Confused over getting a wrap or shawl

a different opinion - I really like wraps (in fact I'm making one tonight for a wedding we're attending this weekend). I love have something light and pretty to wrap around me and keep my arms warm (and be able to drop on a chair when I'm done with it).

I was in a wedding last May and it was freezing - we were thrilled to have our wraps then (especially when taking pictures). They were velvet on the inside and kept us warm.

Re: Confused over getting a wrap or shawl

My cousin had a wrap for her wedding it cost 500 bucks and kept falling off during the ceremony. One thing to consider is her church told her she had to have one because as a lady you can not have bear shoulders in church.

Re: Confused over getting a wrap or shawl

Thanks for the opinions!!!.....I felt like I wanted it in case it was cold, and also to cover my arms, only becuase I am not used to wearing a strapless gown and feel like my arms and neck are so exposed!........But I dont think it is worth the amount of $$$ the bridal place will want to charge. I think the closer the wedding comes, the harder it is to make any decisions!!!!!!

Re: Confused over getting a wrap or shawl

I ran out and bought a sheer ivory wrap in Bloomingdales last weekend for about $40. It should match my dress fine. I figure I am only going to use it if it is really cold. Wraps in general tend to annoy me..I just feel it has been really cold lately....and my wedding is in the evening and I am wearing strapless too.

Re: Confused over getting a wrap or shawl

My church was pretty liberal, but my gown came with a matching wrap, so I wanted to wear it at least for a little while! I only wore it for the ceremony, and it some pics you can see it's uneven. With a Fall wedding, it could have been chilly (even though it was 85 degrees that day!) but it was nice to have in case I needed it.

If your dress is plain you can always pick one up at a dept store - Off Fifth Ave in Westbury has a decent selection, for cheap!

Re: Confused over getting a wrap or shawl

I spent a fortune on a matching shawl to my gown and I never even took it out of the bag!

Re: Confused over getting a wrap or shawl

I bought a red plaid Burberry scarf just for over my shoulders between locations. It throws a bit of oomph to the dress and I will wear it thru the winter.
