We have our ups and downs as everyone does and we go through weird phases...but I remind myself we are still learning every day.

So far so good. We have had minor bumps during the adjustment period in the beginning. My recent layoff has been stressful, but just frustrating because we feel helpless not because we are angry with each other.

We also come from families where the parents were married over 35 years!! If I ever had the idea in my head that I would quit this marriage when some trouble came, I never would have gotten married in the first place.

I know I just am oversensitive with this issue still and sometimes second guess myself when comments are made like that. It makes me sad- like I quit before even trying to make it work when I know in fact in couldnt because of him...I wanted to be married and took the vows seriously- it was him. anyway im done venting...:)

I know where you're coming from. My 1st marriage ended because my husband had cheated on me (while pregnant with Scotty). I felt like a failure for a while, but then I realized that I did not have a choice but to end it, much like Kristi.
I think parents can be married for 35 years, or 35 minutes...we are our own individuals.

KD, please don't take her comment that way, I don't think any of us were thinking of exceptional circumstances.
I think if any of us on these boards were ever in a situation where a S.O. was unstable and not good for us and never would be good for us, we would walk away for the benefit of Ourselves. I hope that I would have the support like you do on the boards, you did a VERY BRAVE thing to recognize a problem that couldn't be fixed. You'll find someone who deserves you and who will treat you like you are #1!

We're happy. We have our fights but they are almost always about housework.

We are doing great but we have known each other for a long time now. We have been friends/coworkers for over six years now. We have been dating over three years and living together for two. We have our fights, disagreements and discussions. But we are the best of friends and have a very open and honest relationship. Communication and compromise is everything.

So far, so great! I was actually thinking today that when everything else in my life is going badly, he is the one good thing I can always count on and I'd have no idea what I would do if we didn't have such a great relationship!
