Re: Controversial thread-My gf works at JFk and the other night she was telling how immigrants have

Ok I understand the cultural difference part. So if my neighbor ate my dog I shouldnt be pissed

Shoes **** I dont compare

and KEL this was about Immigrants. Im not politically correct and probably never will be

My parents were immigrants and I am the product Sorry

Also, I want to know where we draw the line? Whats really equal? If I **** on the street I can get a ticket because I knew better, I see so illegal really isnt illegal if you could really prove that you didnt understand.

The thing that ticks her off is that when they tell them not to do it, they are mad

And I have been to impoverished areas, and yes it sucks. And some things are a luxury, my parents had no soap as kids but they bathed with hot water and used certain foliage so that they didnt smell

Re: Controversial thread-My gf works at JFk and the other night she was telling how immigrants have

We're talking about when people first arrive. So of course they don't know...so no, they shouldn't be punished. And, they are probably embarrassed when told otherwise or yelled at, so they probably do get upset.

And, glad you're parents had foliage ? (where were they from???), but cultural differences do exist. And, hot water, sounds like a luxury as well....in most places hot water is a true luxury (anywhere in the tropics that's for sure).

ughhhh, nastyness. but i will say that while i was in china, in beijing no less, not some country hick town i saw a kid pooping right on the street. his mom was kind enough to at least put down some paper for him. and then i saw a nice little girl take a pee on the great wall. and i think this is okay for children to do there? maybe i'm wrong but i got the impression that it was acceptable for kids to go when they needed to, wherever.

I bet you they were wearing the red aprons...right...I noticed tons of kids (moreso in Beijing than other cities or regions) wearing aprons...and nothing else to make relieving oneself easier... (I only saw pee thoug...never poop)

but I do have to say that China was a pretty clean country...even in the rural areas that I went to...

Americans are pretty clean people...in fact most of us are neatfreaks...ie shower and change undies every day....not many other nations are like that...so I know for me personally, smells would get to me working at JFK...

JUly they boiled it themselves with sticks and probably an old droopy match

They were from Italy.

Personally I know that cutlural differences do exist? But it amazes me How no one will answer my questions

There have been tons of them in this thread and no one answers them they just want me to be politically correct.

whats the question? I think I missed it....

Re: Controversial thread-My gf works at JFk and the other night she was telling how immigrants have

Can I just say..

I personally find a person taking a $hit in the street or in public in general is disgusting and gross and in my version of a perfect world this would not be tolerated and I personally find it disgusting that because we are so very culturally acceptable we MUST not be offended by this act or else we are the ones offending the $hitheads which is an paradox if I've ever heard of one? I know it may be politically incorrect to say I think those people are insane and should at least TRY to learn out ways while living here are visiting (because some are citizens). I know its politically incorrect to say people who blow their snot into the street and then want to shake hands are never going to be invited to my dinner table. I know it's politically inncorrect to say that some people stink so very badly that, yes I do move because I find it offensive.

We've become so concerned about what is or isn't politically correct to say or even THINK that we have forgotten we are still FREE to express our opinions, which is what I feel people are doing in this post.

Whether or not those people who are doing these things realize it's right or wrong to do what they are doing, regardless of whether or not WE don't know what THEIR cultures are doesn't mean we have to ACCEPT what these people do. I don't accept it, I find it rude, offensive and disgusting and if that makes me a bad guy for saying it.. fine.

I am a mean person.
Policitally incorrect/insensitive
So what? Why is it the majority of people who feel the same as I do become treated like a minority of wrong doers in this day and age. It's very strange how this works.

$hitting in public is BAD
If you want to argue that point Wacky will be more than welcome to come $hit in your house for you. Or if you so much feel it's their right to $hit in public then fine.. it's my right to say it's gross as hell!

*hops off soap box*

Did I start on this post as a voice of reason? Saying we all have differences that may shock others.. what happened to my line of thought.??

WACKY!! It's YOUR fault!

Re: Controversial thread-My gf works at JFk and the other night she was telling how immigrants have

We're talking about when people first arrive here. How would you suggest these people learn cultural differences before they come?

Umm...where they don't have toilets or tissues, they don't have book stores so they can't just go buy Lonely Planet USA....
julybride444 Posted:

Re: Controversial thread-My gf works at JFk and the other night she was telling how immigrants have

And, this isn't about being politically correct. It's about being intelligent about the realities of the world around us and the people therein.

I'd love a world in which going to the bathroom on the floor or ground was not tolerated, it would mean a world in which most people don't live in such desperate poverty that they have to.

I have a list of charities you can donate to if you'd like to help build toilets and other sanitation devices in other countries. The problem with living in a place without toilets and sanitation is not one of 'being gross' but one that causes the spread of disease and illness so that people and children die. If you'd like to help introduce these people to toilets get out your wallet.

I don't think someone with that limited amount of knowledge would qualify for immigration status...but I may be getting too narrow with the term...

but personally...i pick up a book before I book my $500-1000 plane ticket...too learn about where I am going...

its just the opposite in other places...how people think Americans are obnoxious b/c many don't learn about the place they are going before they go....

Re: Controversial thread-My gf works at JFk and the other night she was telling how immigrants have

The realities of immigration:

Most of these people coming from very poor countries are sponsored by people here who have purchased their ticket for them and have secured them a job here, they didn't buy the ticket. And yes, they do qualify for 'immigration' (there are many types of immigration), when they apply for citizenship they will of course have been here a while and become acclimated.

Some of the people arriving are refugees, escaping bitter violence and war, they also don't pay for their tickets.

Some people who do pay for their tickets have saved for decades to do so, and buying a book (which isn't available where they are starting out anyway) isn't a real possibility.

It wass few and far between that come as refugees...at least in my experience...and I am sure Miami Intnl is a different story...

actually I saw TONS of people being deported and tried to come in as a refugee and the INS worker wouldn't hear it...not even the civil war in Sri Lanka kept one couple in the country

I saw a lot of this...since the airline I worked for was based out of Germany and they have a much more lenient immigration/refugee policy...

the legitimate immigrants usually were dressed very nicely...it was very common to see the little girls in party dresses

ETA...I left in 1997...so I'm sure A LOT has changed...

So lemme get this straight..
A person who:

No toliets
No books
No TVs
Can't Read
Can't See (cause no on craps on the plane in the aisle I assume and it's not like our floors are covered with crap stains unless you suggest they think Wow them US people clean poop up fast... cause NO ONE else is pooping around them are they)
Can't Smell (when you get off board did you smell crap and say OOOH prefect.. I had that need)

But these same people fly halfway across the world to come here and $hit?
Gimme a break. yes I find this offensive.
You dont have to READ or WATCH TV to know we have toliets. There really is no place on earth who is isolated that the OLDEST form of communication (word of mouth) doesnt exist.

Just saying USA is different would warn MOST civiled people that prehaps things are different.

If you dropped me off blindfolded in a strange land with people and I saw a toliet I would NOT assume to $hit there until I made sure I saw others do the same. When in Rome.....
I would MOST CERTAINLY look around.. because prehaps I have a BRAIN I'd see what the culture is and follow suit to the best of my abilities.

No im not just saying this out of my butt either.. ever been to rural Mexico where the water is priceless? Showers?? are you out of your MIND? what a waste.. I've seen and been in places where things aren't like they are here but I was raised to WATCH first!!!

So
YES.. they offend me
YES they should be smarter and watch first
YES if they read they should learn first
YES if they can't read, then watch TV
YES they should ASK questions before going to a new country
and most importantly

NO, I do NOT feel that I am asking too much.

It's just NOT ok to $hit in public.
