(this seems to be pretty common among travelers) She said they just squat and let it all hang out
* another man blew his nose into his hand and then threw it on the floor
* anohter man tried to check in a suitcase filled with DOODIE-he stunk up the whole place

I was so skeeved out, what the hell is wrong with people

AND dont tell me about cultural differences because I will come to your house and take a crap on your front lawn

OMG I am at work and cracking up, I hope no one passes by. You ladies are a real hoot....man do I love this board.....rflmao

Anyway, lord knows what these people are thinking. I can honestly say THANK GOD I have never seen any of these gross displays. I am also an 'immigrant' so I understand that they may not know what the norms are here as well. Some people do really live in a bubble, I did before I left home. Lots of stuff I have seen would stun some of my family members back home.

My FH is an immigrant and I can tell you he would NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER EVER do any of those things.

Maybe fart in public but that's it.

Some people come from countries where that's OK?

The hand blowing thing is SICKENING. I just gagged from reading it! Ugh!!!

Its disgusting I've seen men AND women do this in the city.

My favorite was seeing a man do this and it went right onto his shoe!!! LOL!!

As a former JFK employee...who worked in the International Arrivals Building...I can say that if I knew certain flights were coming in at the same time as mine...I would sit a pray listeing to the radio when the plane touched down...hoping I could get out of immigration unscathed....

ughhhh, nastyness. but i will say that while i was in china, in beijing no less, not some country hick town i saw a kid pooping right on the street. his mom was kind enough to at least put down some paper for him. and then i saw a nice little girl take a pee on the great wall. and i think this is okay for children to do there? maybe i'm wrong but i got the impression that it was acceptable for kids to go when they needed to, wherever.

now as far as these adults (?) at the airport i don't know what they're excuse is!

air-hankie? thank god i've never seen that. i feel sick enough when someone snorts the snot, loudly, down their throat!

1. How does she know these are immigrants, I've seen American born homeless people do the same thing.

2. There ARE cultural differences, when you come from a place that doesn't have toilets or tissues, you may not realize that they are common here.

3. Again, I've seen a lot worse from homeless people here (most of whom have mental illness, so no-I'm not making fun of them)....

One more thing, on flights many of these people are just arriving here, so they don't know the cultural differences. If you came to my house but didn't know that I require everyone to take off their shoes before walking on my hardwood floors, and you walked in without your shoes, I wouldn't hate you.

Now, I would tell you the rule and then if you continued to do it I would be upset. Sounds like most of these people are just arriving and haven't learned the cultural rules yet.

Shes the one that has to deal with the mess and its international and she sees their passpost and they are visiting on a Visa and they dont speal english

Wacky, unfortunately most people in the world today live without luxuries like tissues and flush toilets. Many people have never seen or heard of a toilet. It's a tragedy but the majority of people in this world live in poverty you could never imagine. I challenge you to go to a third-world country and live in a village for a while. Let's see how you do.

I've seen many Americans do things that are considered DISGUSTING in other cultures when traveling. I saw one man strip down to his bikini bathing suit in the middle of a Fijian village to go swimming. This is a place where villagers keep everything from shoulders to knees covered.

I've also seen plenty of people eat with their left hand in India....that's considered the hand you wipe with. They think you're basically eating remnants of s * h * i * t when you do that....

So, until people know the cultural rules, how are they supposed to know?

The start to this topic should not have singled out immigrants .. there are plenty of people in this country who are citizens who do truly disgusting things .. whether they be along these kind of hygene lines that started this thread ... or worse ... like child abduction, child abdandonment, murder, etc .. take your pick.
