I'm so impressed with everyone's ability to be calm and not judgmental on this thread. The abortion debate usually gets so nasty, so quickly. The way I see it, it's a divide in our society that simply has no solution. On the one side, you have people fighting passionately to prevent Big Brother from declaring that women can be forced to reproduce when they don't want to. That's a noble cause. But on the other hand, you have people who truly believe that innocent infants are being murdered, and they're fighting to save them. That's also a noble cause.
The problem is, the pro-choice folks and the pro-life folks are fighting two different wars. One is about women's rights. The other is about infanticide. They're never going to agree, because they're not even fighting about the same thing.
I think whoever said that most pro-choice women aren't really in favor of abortion is right. I've never met anyone who thinks abortion is a swell idea. But most women are aware (as I think men are not) that sometimes abortion is a necessary evil.
I think this is so well phrased. I am a firm believer in pro-choice(not for me), but I also feel it is an argument that will never die.
We have a few issues like this and they never go away. I would never want to see us go back to the days of illegal abortions or self induced abortions. To think of women dying because abortions were illegal is horrible.

ETA: Pro-choice is NOT NECESSARILY PRO-ABORTION. I'm just saying that I think I should have the right to choose what happens with my body.
That is what I say. Being pro-choice doesn't mean that a person is preaching the wonders of abortion, but rather that he or she believes the CHOICE should exist. and whoever said the pro choice and pro life people are fighting two different battles is sooooooo right. to each his own, i guess.

no matter if it is legal or not, it is still going to exist...so the choice comes down to this: keep it safe, private and personal or leave her to her own resources which are dirty, horrendous and dangerous...if it were your daughter, which would you want for her? personally, if i had a daughter and it was her only option, then i would want it to be safe and performed by someone who wouldn't leave her to die. just my opinion.
I agree 100%. I don't believe in abortion as a choice for myself, but I don't think that the right of choice should be taken away from women. To me that is forcing your beliefs on someone else, which is not what America is about.

Re: controversial topic...
I am pro-life FOR ME. What other women do with their bodies is of no concern to me, but women who use abortion as a regular form of bc make me sick. I can tell you from first hand experience, I have a friend who has had 4 abortions, 2 of them being 6 months apart from each other and one of them on a 19 week old. I've asked her why she just doesnt go on the pill or use condoms, her reply was its too much of an inconvience to use condoms who wants to stop in the middle of something and as for the pill if I forget to take them whats the sense of being on them. Right there shows her mentality, her thinking of 'so if I get pregnant I'll terminate'.
I can understand if a woman gets pregnent and really doesnt think she can raise the child and decides to terminate (and I'm not talking about rape cases), but its the women who are aborting habitually, abortion is the only form of bc to these women when it really should be the last resort.

Kudos from me as well for being adults on such a controversial issue. It is about time!!!
I am 100% Pro-Life. I just have never had any question in my head that abortion is a good thing. I can't find myself agreeing with the Pro-Choice arguments....I have researched, studies and talked on abortion and I just can't seem to justify any Pro-Choice arguments. JMO
In my own opinion, and please don't hate me. I think it selfish to worry about your own rights, what about the baby? That is all I could think about when I read Pro-Choice stuff. To each is own and I live by that truly but I feel that with abortion, it involves more than just the woman and her body.
At first, I was not even going to post but everyone posted their opinions and this is just mine.

You are right! To each is own...I mean that. It is just my opinion but then again...you can never say never. Thankfully, I have never been in the situation where I had to think of it, and I would like to think that I wouldn't abort if I ever was but you truly do never know.

Re: controversial topic...
i think that it is a womans right to choose to do what she wished with her own body. i do think that you not take the right for granted and use it as a form of birth control though. i was heavily involved with clinic defense for years and think that woman should be able to have a safe clean place where they can have the procedure done if the choose. i think making it illegal will only make the back alley clinics come back and thousands of woman will die or will become sterile from an unsafe procedure. i dont think a 60 year old congress man has a right to tell me or any other woman what to do with there bodies. some people are so quick to judge and say that abortion is wrong but oddly there the same people that are against walfare and any other asistance one would need if they have a child they may not be ready for. thats just my opinion

I agree with what many others have said already. I am pro-choice. I would never have an abortion myself - if I was not ready to raise a child I would give it up for adoption...or if I wasn't ready to raise a child, I wouldn't be having sex in the first place! However, I do not agree with legislation that makes abortion illegal. They are going to happen no matter what, and I'd rather it happen where it's clean and relatively safe then in some secret, dirty, unsanitary manner.
