Convertible bridesmaid dresses

Has anyone done the convertible bridesmaid dresses (one dress, 20 ways... You know what I mean)? If so, how was your experience? I feel like it would be a great choice for my bridesmaids since they are all different ages and sizes, this way they can all wear it how they feel comfortable. I'm just wondering if you guys had any thoughts, if it worked well for you, that sort if thing.

Re: Convertible bridesmaid dresses

I wore the convertible dress this past October in my sister-in-laws bridal party. As it's a nice concept to allow the girls to wear the dress the way they want to, it was kind of a pain to figure out a way to wear it ...had to use youtube and keep stopping the video and rewind and stop and so on while trying to put the dress on. It's also hard to put on yourself, all the bridesmaids needed to help each other figure out a way. In the end it wasn't really about what style we liked best for our body type and what we felt comfortable in, it more about just getting it on and having it stay on. It I had a choice of the bride giving us a few choices to come to a consensus on for which dress to wear or the convertible dress I would hands down pick any other dress.

Just my opinion though!

I've heard this also: that its a nice concept, but it ends up looking a little messy because of how the dress is cut to be twisted around in s many ways. Also that it was hard to find bras that worked with them.

Convertible bridesmaid dresses

I actually know a girl who had her bridesmaids wear these dresses. I wasn't at the wedding, so I can't say what they look like in person, but in the photos, they don't look cohesive. I also think that the shape of the dress itself isn't very flattering. The idea behind it is supposed to be that they will look good on every girl, and they really only look flattering on some girls, just like every other dress.

Just my opinion, though!

Thanks all! It hadn't considered how difficult the dresses might be when getting ready. Thanks!

Convertible bridesmaid dresses

I was thinking about doing this for my girls but when I got the fabric swatches in the mail, I realized it wasn't for a formal affair at all. I think it could work if you were doing a casual style beach wedding, but for my curvy girls, the fabric would hug them in all the wrong places.

Convertible bridesmaid dresses

I wore this as a bridesmaid at a wedding a few years ago. I agree with most of what was said. Finding a bra was difficult, and even for smaller-chested girls, bra-less posed just as much of a problem because the material was fairly thin.

It was rather difficult to figure out how to wear it and I don't know how flattering they really were. ALSO, we were told that one size should fit almost everybody and when the dresses came the other two girls couldn't get them on. I usually wear a street size 6 and even I had some trouble...

I believe they come in two different materials and one is usually a cotton jersey-type material (definitely not for a formal affair), but the other (that we had) was fancier.

Positives were that they moved nicely and people were constantly entertained when my fellow BMs and I would disappear into the bridal suite and emerge a few minutes later in 'new' dresses...

If you're interested, I might be able to e-mail you a few pix...

Convertible bridesmaid dresses

I considered these convertible dresses for my girls as well, but I ultimately chucked the idea because they looked impossible to wear with a proper bra and definitely did not provide much coverage in the boob area. (My girls all have... well, GIRLS.)

The fabric on the affordable ones was too casual, and the one I found that looked appropriate for an evening wedding was far beyond what I wanted to ask my friends to spend ($350!)
