NRVBRD--are you doing your wedding on an afternoon or evening? would you mind telling me how much they are charging you pp? because I was thinking of doing it in Sept or Oct. of next year but i think it costs more than in Nov. & Dec. & since my FH & I are paying for this on our own we are on a budget

i just started planning last Saturday so I think i should be able to get a wedding together (& find a place to live) by next October (hopefully thats realistic!)

i think in October there would still be a chance for good weather, but if I can save more money by doing it in Nov or Dec that would be great..

I am having a Sat Night wedding, which I really wanted, and Coral House gave me that flexibilty.
For most places on the island Sat night is NOT affordable.

I am paying $79pp (gratuities included) tax .

Nov and Dec are cheaper daytime is really cheap.

I am another Coral House bride...February 7, 2004. I back everything nrvbrd and jennbaby said about the Coral House. Honestly, it doesn't bother me that there is more than one function going on at a time....what was really important to me was the food....I made sure to get a taste testing (all we had to do was tip the waiter) before we booked and that everyone loved it (parents and fh) and we did. Everyone has been more than friendly...I have been working with Linda Hunt and she is really nice. I looked at a few places where I lived (in the city/Westchester) and either they offer too little food or they are expensive and are non flexible. I decided that to look anywhere I can drive to!!!! Some places wouldn't give me prices unless I went to see them...Linda mailed me tons of stuff with prices. I am unable to have centerpieces with real flowers so she threw in 300 shrimp for the cocktail hour. I have added a few things like sushi and extra cases of beer. You also get a mini viennese hour with cookies, pastries, a dessert, different types of coffee, tea and wedding cake. I am in the americana room and my minimum is 150/160. The cocktail hour is really huge I have never seen that much food offered at a place before. I went there I think in September (forgot the month sorry) and there were two parties going on...one in the Americana and one in the room next door to it ....forgot the name of the room....the hall wasn't really crowded to be honest. I love the Coral House because of its country/nantucket charm type of feel...I was just comfortable walking in there. I love a big wooden dance floor...I was really picky about that and I love that the americana room has a fire place and faces the lake. Here is the website www.coralhouse.com .

I have never been to the Sans Souci but reading all the posts on these boards, I have never heard a bad thing about them. I can't find Sans Souci's website or I would have posted here that one also. Do a search on here for both places and do what makes you happy. I wish you the best of luck.

I was a Sans Souci bride and, let me tell you, they were AMAZING! I fell in love with it primarily because it was one of the most unique places I had found (that was affordable as well). The food was spectacular. I cannot even tell you how many compliments I received on the reception - from the location/view to the food. They only have one affair at a time which is also a big plus. Floral centerpieces are included in the package price. I have never heard a bad thing about the Sans Souci. You should definitely check them out in person but in the mean time, their website is www.sanssouci.us - It doesn't do them justice -

I can second Meg's post about Sans Souci from a guests point of view. The food was DELICIOUS! and the service was great.

I was at a friends wedding that had 130ish guests which was very comfortable. I liked that there was only one party. And while the seperate dance floor is different, it also means not having to put anyone by the dance floor and the DJ was set up on the opposite end of the room from the dinner tables - so no one sits by the speakers either:)

thanks for your feedback on Sans Souci, Me & most of my guests live in Manhattan do you think Sans Souci would be too far or would ppl feel inconvenienced getting there?

I have been to a wedding at Coral House and I thought it was nice for the money (I understand that their prices are very reasonable). The food was decent, not great, but decent and the room we were in was pretty (I don't remember which one it was but it was not the huge one). Unfortunately, the service was not good at all, there was no such thing as table service for drinks and our orders were all confused. I just want to add, I was not even thinking about planning a wedding at the time I was there so I wasn't very observant of the decor etc.
I have never attended a wedding at Sans Souci but I did check it out just two weeks ago when I was looking for my own reception hall. I thought it was okay but certain aspects of the place I was very disappointed in. First of all, the standard cocktail hour hardly included anything. Many of the chair covers (which are included) looked discolored, torn or had cigarette burns in them, the brown movable dividing walls (used in case it rains) were hideous and filthy, the upstairs rooms (bridal suite) looked very run down and seriously in need of an update. Some of the shades on the chandeliers were torn. I may sound very critical but I am very picky and just want to pass along my observations. Also, I did not care for the dance floor being so seperate from the rest of the room. I inquired about prices for a Sat. evening in September and at first thought the price was low (the only place that quoted me under $100. for a Sat. evening in Sept.) but not after I took into consideration some of the things I mentioned above. I know these may not be issues for everyone, please understand these are the observations of a very picky person.
I will say that San Souci has a more charming appearance especially when you first drive up.

i also heard there were power lines right by Sans Souci, did that have any impact on the reception? (i.e., did they come out in the pictures or can it be seen from the reception room?)

I am neither a Coral House or Sans Souci bride, I just wanted to comment on your last post about the travelling for your guests.

Here is my philosophy:

The people who want to be there WILL be there with no problem!!! If you are concerned about the travelling. I would look into blocking hotel rooms and giving them the info. But both Coral House or Sans Souci is quite a trip from Manhattan. Good luck! Whichever place you choose will be the RIGHT place!

oh yes, I didn't mention those because I was afraid I would seem too critical. I felt like there were power lines all over the place. Part of that is because there are no leaves on the trees right now so they were not hidden at all! I am sure they are less obvious in summer. My other complaint was that while there was a view of the water, there were two big barges right there in full view. It kind of took the picturesque out of the view.

EvanEdan, you being critical- noooo not at all.

Josie when you go to Sans Souci this weekend go with an open mind. As Jen2704 said, Sans Souci has a great reputation, so keep that in mind. I have heard nothing but good things about them on this board.

As for Coral House you know what I think. I have heard from many a person that the service is there is excellent.

So please keep the questions coming and let us know what you decide.
