Just because my last one was issued at 14 and not 16, I can't renew it, I have to get an entirely new one.
$30 processing fee? Are you kidding me?!?!?

Yup!!!! I just said this to DH yesterday afternoon!
I also just renewed my passport last year. I thought it was March (which meant it would have been free to get a new one with my new name). But NOPE, I missed the year cut off by 2 freakin' weeks!

We are going to the post office tommorow, we went the other day and they said it closes at 3 so we'd have to come back. I heard it takes like 2 hours sitting there too. uhhh

Re: $157 for a freakin passport?!!?!?!
It shouldn't take 2 hours.....print the correct form online and collect the correct materials and then drop if off at the post office.....

it takes 2 hours because there's usually only 1 person handling the passports booth and it always happens that the person on line in front of you has filled out a form incorrectly or is missing something and takes forever to write out the check.
my sister had a great experience at the PO in Hicksville though since all of their employees are able to process the forms.

I'm surprised you have to go to the post office. I just had to fill out the form, attach two pictures, and my freakin check for $97 and mail it.

Supposedly you can mail it in for a renewal, but being that I have to start all over with a new one, you have to be present in front of a gov't official, and thank goodness a PO worker qualifies or I'd have to go to the city!

It is insane, but unfortunately there is no other option.
Just think of it as you are helping our national debt go down by $157.
