I want to register for China but I don't know what is reasonable. I really didn't even want to do a registry but I guess most people do so I am doing it. What is an appropriate price for China. I just looked at a Waterford 5 place setting for $100. Is that normal. It sounds fair to my guest, but I have no idea. I need help on this China thing ladies. All suggestions are welcomed.

Re: Cost of China
I haven't registered yet, but from other registries that I have seen $100-$125 is very reasonable for 5-piece place setting.

Re: Cost of China
I think that's pretty average, though of course there are more pricey sets as well as cheaper ones. I don't think $100 a setting is too much to ask. My FH was really against registering for china because he feels we'll never use it, so we compromised and got the Mikasa Platinum Cameo, which is very simple and elegant (white with the silver trim) and we got it on sale in Fortunoff. $300 for service for 12!!! It looks much more expensive than that and other brands sell the same pattern for a lot more. Either way, register for whatever you like. If you don't get all the settings, most places will give you a discount on your registry after the wedding and you can buy yourself the missing pieces.

Re: Cost of China
Ours were $100 a 5 pc place setting but they were bought at fortunoffs and came with a free soup bowl per setting so we got a better value because the soup bowl alone costs like $50!

Re: Cost of China
My china is Waterford and is $120 per place setting. The soup bowls are $50 each and the sugar/creamer cost $200 together!! I felt sort of guilty registering for this set, but I am the most low-budget Old Navy Parade of Shoes girl around so I felt why not be treated? Also, if no one wants to buy it, that's OK too.

Mine is only $40 at BBB, its (Mikasa Parchment) I was expecting it tobe more around $60-80, but this is the one I like. It happens to be the same price as my casual dishes at Fortunoff's. (Royal Stafford-Blossom)
Go figure.

Re: Cost of China
$100 is just about average. There are some that are much more, and some that are much less.

Thats funny Ive never heard of such a thing I registered over 2 years ago for my china. It was a brand new pattern. What a waste of money it would be for companies to come out with a pettern and then discontinue it. Why is that you are only posting about China and Why is that you are looking back like months to pull up china posts.

China lasts for years and years. Fortunoff is still selling a set my FIL's got as a gift a long time ago. I was told that they stay for at least 7 years before a thought of discontinuation. What is an Open Stock Policy anyway?

That's mine too! Here's something wild - it's $29.99 a setting from Mikasa's website, and they have a registry there too! So I double registed - 12 settings from each place, because there are no Mikasa stores in this area and most of my guests probably won't go on the website. But the price difference is astounding! On Macy's website it's $49.99 on sale, $72 regular, in store at Macy's it's $36.75 on sale, and direct from Mikasa it's $29.99 all the time! So weird!

Wow Some of you guys are paying a fortune. Our china is not that expensive because I figured I would really never use it so it's not worth it. JMO
