Is infant care about the same amount (for, say, 6 month old infants)?

Re: cost of daycare?

Infant care is the same price until 18 months, when it goes down a bit, and then at 36 months it goes down again. that is because new york states has different child-teacher ratios for each age group, thus they have to pay more teachers in the earlier years.
I am trying to find 3 day a week care for march, and then I will probably need 4 day a week care starting in June/July.
where do you live? I am in ronkonkoma? i can send you what i have so far.
Full time care runs $250-$300. some companies have a program that allows you to use pre-tax payroll dollars to pay for child care. you can ask your HR dept. about it. So you get $5K towards daycare for about $3400 out of pocket. Does that make sense?
I just started calling around some places yesterday and it is very emotional and very overwhelming task IMO. if you need any support please let me know.

WOW

it is so expensive, thats what? Just about $1000 a month?

Thank you Michele, but no need to send me the info, I am not actively looking (yet) -- Im just trying to get a ballpark figure to weigh the costs of working versus being a SAHM

My guess is thats about the ballpark figure anywhere in suffolk county....

My day care charges $225 for children under 3 and $200 for children over 3 and potty trained

I'd say Michele 31 is right on the mark. It is VERY expensive, and definately worth figuring out if it even PAYS to work (Figure in gas expenses, wear and tare on your car, clothing, lunches, etc)

I stopped working when my grandparents couldn't watch my daughter . After daycare was paid for I only had about $150 weekly left out of my salary it was not worth the aggrivation of it all.

Re: cost of daycare?

Believe it or not, I'm trying to figure this all out now, and we're not even married yet. We are about to leave our apartment and move in with my FILS for a year and half so we can buy a house. I'm trying to figure out if I can stay at home, if I'll need to quit my job in the city. One thing leads to another, and another...

Can you tell I'm a worry wart??

But Michele - we're probably going to move to Ronkonkoma!

I will keep all my notes and send to anyone who wants them. Daycare is not cheap and for some women it does pay to stay home. But it does pay for me to work so.......

Re: cost of daycare?

wow...

in my situation it's not $ that I have to go back to work for..it's just that we own the company and it rides on us both being there. $1000 a month would be the end of us. I am grateful I can bring my baby to work if need be. Also glad that you all have each other to share research and concerns with. This decision must be so difficult.
