Re: Costa Rica

No offense to anyone but we just went on a family vacation to Costa Rica (Puntarenas) and do not recommend it for a HM.

Pros: I enjoyied spending the week with my FH's family and just hanging out.

Cons: It rains practically EVERYDAY and when I say rain, i mean pour and once it starts if doesn't stop The beach water was BROWN! We asked the staff and they say it rains 9 MONTHS ouf of the year (the best time to go is the week of Christmas during the dry season) FYI - the water is brown b/c of the rain from the rivers and the rainforest.

I know other parts of Costa Rica have white sandy beachs and clear blue water but from our experience NOT in Puntarenas.

None taken at all. I didn't realize that it rained that much during the rainy season. I'd heard differently. As for the water...i've had to debate with my FH about this a lot because Costa Rica is not a Caribbean island so the water isn't clear blue, not anywhere (on the pacific coast you might get close). I've told him that if we're going to Costa Rica it's because it's Costa Rica and not a caribbean island. If we want clear blue water we'll go somewhere else. Neither of us would like that rain though

Yea, we were suprised about the rain too. I mean, we knew it was going to rain everyday but it was described as 'similar to Florida weather) It'll rain everyday for a little bit then stop.... not the case

During our stay we planned a beach and an zip lining tour and we cancelled both due to the weather...

Oh man that stinks : ( I guess Costa Rice really is best during the non-rainy season for the honeymoon and in general.

Re: Costa Rica

We went to costa rica in July 2008.
We stayed somewhere extremely luxurious.
we stayed at

www.recreocostarica.com

It is on the Pacific Side. You fly into Liberia and the resort pics you up in a land rover and you drive to the resort which is about 1 1/2 hours away. About a 1/2 hour of that trip is dirt road, and yes it is bumpy.
But once you get the the resort, the perks far outway the ride. You get your own house, yes a house, not a suite, not a hotel a whole house.
You have a cook assigned to you who also acts basically as a butler. He comes in the morning makes you breakfast adn packs lunch for you (if you chose to have him do this) in a cooler in your own private GOLF CART!!!
Then he cooks your dinner and desert adn makes you drinks thorughout the day and then leaves at night.
You get a golf cart to use throughout yoru stay.
Each house also has a maid that comes nad makes your bed and washes your clothes adn folds them for you if you choose to have her do this.
You also get your own private pool
I beleive they have suite rentals but the villa rental is MUCH better.
When we were there out of the 15 or so villas only 3 had occupants. So it was definetly romantic b/c we had free rein of the resort. Sometiems at the beach we were the only people there.
Some tours they offer that we did are: a day trip to nicaragua. This is a guided tour through nicaragua.....awesome!!!!!!!
we also did teh zipline adventure. This was at a place called Ricon....and we went white water tubing down a river in an inner tube with a whole group of people, VERY COOL adn FUN!!!!
and then we went zip lineing ...this was some crazy stuff! then we took a horeback tour to a waterfall (gorgeous) that you could jump into adn then you ride the horse to a real hot water spring where you have a mudd bath!!!! and then wash off in teh spring!!!
they also offer overngiht trips to Arenel.
All food and drinks are included. They send you a food list before you go so that you can check off all the food and liquor you like!

I would say that Costa Rica was the most amazing trip of my life!!! I woudl love to go back for our HM but we want to experience somewhere different. I dont think I will ever have as luxurious of a vacation again.
HTH i'll try to upload some pics

Re: Costa Rica

Ladies, I'm Costa Rican...my mom was born there and we live on Long Island now. She owns a condo at Los Suenos Resort and Marina, Playa Herradura. There is a Marriott on the property so that tells you the quality of this area.
She rents her condo out and she is will to work with your budget. It's perfect for Honey Mooners. She recently gave one week free stay to her nephew for his honeymoon. They couple loved it. She understands the economy and the expensive we face. FM me if your interested and she will help you all out with an affordable weekly rate. With the Marriott on property, you can just walk to the tour office to book any excursions or tours. They will pick you up right there - walking distance.

The place is gorgeous! I do a lot of traveling since I work for an airline, and I have to admit Los Suenos is the only place I truly can relax at.

Good Luck!
