Just found out that couch will not fit through the hallway into the living room.
Has anyone ever heard of the moving company actually breaking the couch so that you can get it into the room and then they repair it like brand new once it is actually in the room?? Heard this from a friend and wanted to know if anyone else has ever heard of anything like this before.

Re: Couch wont fit???
I never heard of that. They had to take my doors off to get my couch & love seat in this weekend but they didn't have to take it apart. Good luck
I wouldn't take it apart...it will never be the same..

Please do not let them talk you into breaking the couch. It is the WRONG thing to do. I have removed doors, jambs and sheetrock to get furniture through tight spaces but I could never ever justify breaking the item.

Re: Couch wont fit???
There are companies that specialize in unassembleing furniture to move it into tight spaces, but generally it's a specialist, not the seller / delivery people. Sorry, I don't know anyone to recommend.
I think what they do for a sofa is not 'break' it, but remove the legs, or remove an arm, taking up fabric and restitching it if necessary. Often these parts are bolted together anyway.

Thanks guys.
We decided to get two love sheets and the chaise that comes w/ the set.
The breaking thing did not sit too well with me.

Re: Couch wont fit???
I saw that you decided against the couch, but for the future, most furniture stores will be able to recommend someone that can dismantle a couch, bring it into the room in pieces and put it back together. It's actually not uncommon.
It's usually $100 or so for the service.
I had it done with my couch and the guy was a pro. Most couches come apart in 2 pieces, and all he worked with was a hammer and staple gun. It wasn't 'breaking' the couch as much as it was dismantling or unassembling the thing, as someone posted. He had it reassembled in less than 20 minutes and the thing was as good as new.
The only drawback is that should you ever have to get the couch OUT, you'd have to rehire the guy to take it apart again. (which I had to do when I moved, but I LOVED this couch)

I just saw this but we just had to do the same thing! Two guys recommended from the sofa company, came and did it. I can look for their card if necessary. I would def. recommend them, it cost about $200 or so

My sister used a service like this and would highly recommend them. They dismantled a sofa and love seat to bring into her basement and re-assembled so they are like new.

My livingroom furniture should be arriving any day now. That's my biggest fear, that the furniture won't fit through my door.

Re: Couch wont fit???
We are having this problem while looking for couch for the basement. It has to go through the basement door and it is hard to fit it through. We are thinking of a sectional because of this, but even one of the pieces are too big. They all say that Berkline couches backs come off and that is the way to go. Now sure yet what we are going to do
