Could it be? Opinions on dress, please!

Original post by violetfairy

Oh boyohboy! I think I found my dress today. But maybe I'm just caught up in the moment...

See, there was no way I was looking for a ball gown. I'm short, and so is fi. And then I found this. (See pic below.)

I tried it on and loved it. I'd get rid of the cap sleeves and do spaghetti straps instead. No problem. Then reality set in: could I dance with fi in it? Could anyone get within 5 feet of me? Would I look like a giant bell?

The lady at the shop said they could take out the top layer of crinoline, which will make it a bit less, um, BIG, but not a whole lot of difference. So... opinions, please! (P.S. It's a Moonlight, and not expensive.)

I love teh cap sleeves, i as lookign for soemthing with cap sleeves, but enedup with wide stpas instead.
I also love the neckline ( also what i was looking for, untill I relazied I'm too big for that)
And the detail is beautiful. I'm also short, and thought that kind of waistlien cut me in half & made me look shorter, but if it works for you, go fo it. I'm also getting my dress de-poufed a little. We'll see when it coems in, but probabaly remvoe 1 of t 2 ayers ofr crinoline & ease in the skirt a little.

You'll be able to dance, your husband will just squish the dress a little--or you can waltz

I'm with everyone else - it's GORGEOUS!

I love the cap sleeves too, and normally I don't like them!

I love that dress!! I've been eye-balling it for sometime now, but have not tried it on yet or seen it in person. I am also short and the fullness is a concern of mine as well.

that's pretty! I think either way (cap sleeves or spaghetti straps) would be beautiful so do what you're comfortable in..I doubt you'll look like a ball - people will know that the dress is supposed to look full!

I will add my 2 cents to everyone else's comments..

I agree - that is just a GORGEOUS dress, and I just ADORE cap sleeves anyhow (I'm definitely getting them on my dress) so i'd leave it 'as is.' They look especially lovely with that particular dress.

You fell in love with that dress for a reason, so poofy or not I think you hould go for it! (as some of the other girls said, you can alwys 'de-poof' it a little bit...)

On the other hand, some people say that they find the cap sleeves uncomfortable, or they cannot raise their arms the right way, etc.. so if you are already concerned that the ballgown will be 'in the way' maybe the cap sleeves will be too annoying also.

You'll do what's best for you! good luck!

It's GORGEOUS!!! And I agree, I like the cap sleeves. But I think it would look great with spaghetti straps also.

I love it!!! Just stunning!! I wasn't looking for a ball gown either, but then I fell in love with mine and my theory is - how many times in your life will you wear something like that - I say GO FOR IT!!

Yeah the lady at the shop is right they could take out the top layer of crinoline, which will make less poofy

I think your dress is beautiful...just be careful about how heavy it is. I am a tiny girl only 5'2 and really small...I bought a ball gown and it was just so heavy. I ended up buying another dress to make myself more comfortable. If you can carry it...go for it...it will be stunning.

Oh, wow! Thank you all for your nice comments and opinions. Maybe I will keep those cap sleeves after all... I'm going to try on the dress one more time before making a final decision. The dress was waaay too big on me (I think it was a 14, and I'm a 4), so everything, including the cap sleeves, was swimming on me. (So the sleeves kept falling off my shoulders and I worried I'd be futzing with them all night.)

I feel more confident in my decision after hearing from all of you. THANKS!

I love that dress! Mine will look a lot like it after my mom makes it. The accents will be silver and I'm adding illusion sleeves:
