ok im stressing out a little bc im wondering whether or not to invite them. i work with a group of about 20 people - roughly 8-10 very closely. two of which i am extremely close with - like we hang out and talk outside of work. i absolutely would love to at least have these two at the wedding; however, if i invite them, i 'should' invite everyone else, no? including my boss right? we're trying to keep our list down in size as well and i dont want to have to invite the whole office. i also dont think it would be fair to the two of them if noone else is invited; and maybe they would be upset if they arent invited at all (esp since the wedding is mostly all i talk about anymore)...and i dont really want my boss there - for many different reasons... and to complicate things further, my boss has aleady told me to not invite anyone from work bc then i have to inivte everyone....solid point. at least i technically dont have to invite the boss. so whats the best way to approach this - invite no one, invite the two of them only, or invite everyone?
I'd just invite the ones you're closest to...and keep in mind, that 20 people turns into 40 people when you add their spouses/SOs, and that's a LOT of money.

Re: coworkers...to invite or not
I am inviting only a handful of people from work and everyone understands. It's your wedding and you only invite the people you care about. Invite the two people you are close with.

If I were you I would just invite the two that you are close with. You can't make everyone happy and you should do what will make you happy for your wedding.

Re: coworkers...to invite or not
Our guest list is too tight. Nobody is invited. I remember a few months after I started there that one guy was getting married (smaller office, like what you mentioned) and only certain people were invited. Others got offended and it just seemed drama filled and shady... But who knows.

Re: coworkers...to invite or not
having the same issue but sort of thinking that i'm just inviting the 2 girls that i'm closest with vs. my entire team. i try not to talk about my wedding at all at work but if i do, it's to these girls.
my feeling is, it's my wedding so i'm inviting who i want. i'm not going to invite 5 extra people because it's supposed to be all or nothing.

Invite the two your closest with. Weddings are expensive- most people understand that and unfortunately to keep a list down coworkers are vut before family and friends!

Re: coworkers...to invite or not
There is no way on this green earth that my boss will be invited and I sit next to them every day! I'm only inviting about 4-5 of my co workers and that is it. It would be too much $ to invite everyone else.

I'd definitely invite the two you are closest with and then maybe your boss depending on your relationship with him/her.

Re: coworkers...to invite or not
I work in a small office and everyone gets along great, so I am inviting everyone.
But, if I were in your shoes, I'd only invite the ones you are closer to. Especially the two you mentioned =)

This! Just keep saying how you are trying to keep the costs/list down if anyone asks to back up your case. That's what I've been doing

Re: coworkers...to invite or not
I totally understand your situation. I am a special education teacher so I work with a ton of other Teachers, Therapists, Teacher assistants, and aides. Some of which I am close to and some of which I am not- but I can't invite only half of my 'team' and expect the other half not to get hurt feelings. Since I am close to half of my team, I think we are going to have to invite them all. This is aside from the other people outside our little bubble who I am very close to as well. Work, for me alone, might be two tables!

Re: coworkers...to invite or not
First off, you dont have to decide today. You arent getting married for quite some time. Relationships and jobs change, and you never know what position you will be in come next Fall.
With that said, if you are only close with two people in the dept, then invite those two people. I am doing exactly that, and will decide on my boss much closer to the event. You just cant worry about it all now bc many things can change!

I would definitely invite the 2 that you are closest with! It's your day and you should get to decide who is going to be there and it's not fair for you to waste $$ on people who aren't important to you. If you are nervous about it, maybe explain the situation to your 2 friends and ask them not to mention that they are invited around your other co-workers.

Re: coworkers...to invite or not
I would invite whoever you want to and not worry about people being pissed.
I have worked at my firm for 9 years now and I really love everyone I work with. I wish I could invite everyone but there are about 50 people who work here so that would mean 100 people. I can not afford to do that.
I am inviting the people I am closest with. I am sure I am going to piss people off but I can not worry about that. If they do not understand, then oh well!

Re: coworkers...to invite or not
I am inviting no one from work ....FH & I work at the same company....it'd be a bit much with all of those work people there (even though I don't know/see his group)
all of our co-workers are our B-listers
I think you should invite the people you're close to, don't feel obligated to invite everyone-I try not to talk wedding with my coworkers because I don't want them to think that I'm inviting them...you'll end up with way more people you planned if you invite all of them

Re: coworkers...to invite or not
I am not inviting anyone I work with. I am not close with anyone at my job. Just invite the ones you feel close with. Don't feel bad some of the other coworkers you might not even see in a few years from now. Things are always changing.
