I'm new to this site (been engaged about 2 months) and im amazed at how supportive and helpful you all are. I need some help. I recently booked my place (ahh!!) and date and we got the contract in the mail. I'm getting married at the Tappan Hill Mansion in Tarrytown (if anyones been to a wedding there and has any comments, please share!).
on our contract there is something called a CPI Option and basically says that they will increase the quoted prices by the percentage change in the latest puplished NY and Northeastern NJ regional consumer price index. I just want to know if anyone else has experienced this. Does this mean they can and will raise the price?!?!?!
Help!!

Re: CPI Option
I've never heard of this but my contract is in the works also, I know on basic principles of contract law this would not be a normal thing to have at all... I don't believe our contract will have this. If it were me, I would call the RH and tell them that I was uncomfortable signing this and you can edit it out of the contract, I certainly would not be prepared to pay more than the contract price. If anyone else has seen this please enlighten me as well because I had no idea about this, if it is custom??

Definitely sounds like they can change it. I would call the RH and ask them exactly what that means. I wouldnt sign a contract with that b/c YOU dont know what the price increase will be over a year, etc. Usually you sign a contract and you 'lock in' that price for your date.

I agree, i would be afraid to do this. When i booked, it was locked in for that rate. What if all along its one price but then right before your wedding it goes up. You'll be saving based on what you think you'll pay but it can really throw you off it the price goes up by alot and then all of a sudden you have to come up with alot more money.
I would think its hard to save for a wedding when you dont even know for sure what your final balance would be.
