Crappy vday

So I'll try to keep this story as short as I can. Bascially it's my fh's cousins 18th birthday on sunday his aunt had told me near the end of january that she wanted to host a dinner for him at her home for his birthday but didn't have an exact date for me so i said sure let me know when you figure it out. (Everyone in his family besides his mother, her sister HATES his aunt but thats a much longer story I also cannot stand the b.i.t.c.h) So I'm currently in school to become a court reporter and let me tell you this **** is hard I just ended the semester, have 6 days off and go back monday and I start speedbuilding. I have to be able to write 225 words per minute to graduate Needless to say I'm not looking forward to this new semester. FH car is in the shop and his aunt lives in staten island so id have to be the one to drive. A few days ago I told him you know what I dont have any kind of break from school till next june i dont want to drive to staten island on a sunday and go into school the next day for tests. FH was fine with this. So bfore he goes off to work he tells his father that i wont be comming on sunday. Keep in mind this is also i cousin i NEVER see and have no kind of relationship with. Well apprently his father went off on him and thought my excuse was '********' Well heres a good excuse for you how about i dont want to effing go. why is it the end of the world if im not there? If my fh didnt come to some family get together because he had a lot to do the next day my family wouldnt say boo about it. So i pick up fh from work yesterday and he goes off on me about how pissed off his father is. Really dude on valentines day? I'm not even that big of a vday fan to be honest but it drives me nuts that fh who had no problem with this two days ago but all of the sudden his father goes off on him i have to hear about it. My father would never give me **** if he skipped out on something. Anyone else have this problem where you expected to be at every single friggin family function. Ok rant over thanks for listening!!

Oh boy...I hope everything works out. Your FH's family cannot expect for you to be at everything. It's impossible. Even if they do not understand your schedule or commitments, your FH should and be able to explain it to them.

Once you calm down, I would talk to FH about this and tell him how you feel. Maybe it's time for FH to say something to his Dad. I don't see what the big deal is about missing a birthday dinner for a cousin that you barely know.

I don't think that is very fair of your FFIL to be mad at you. You are doing all the right things - going to school, planning a wedding, etc. - and he thinks you need to take time out to drive around and whatnot? That's rediculous! My family is the black sheep of our extended families so we don't go to much, but seriously, if FH ever said that (and had all that you have going on) my parents would've been sympathetic. FH needs to understand this as well!

Re: Crappy vday

Thanks girlies! I stood my ground despite having comments made to me when I saw the FILs in person. His mother acted like it was no big deal but she tends to be very two faced and ffil said oh it just won't be the same without you. **** you!! Its not like I'm skipping out on a wedding. Give me a break. FH didn't even care I wasn't going until his father said something. Then fbil called fh telling him he wished he and his wife had an excuse not to go, Guess im not the only one!
