I don't know if this helps but if you purchased the dress with a credit card you can contact your credit card company explain the situation and they will usually credit back your account and then get their money back from the wedding center. It might be worth looking into if this is how you paid.

There are several hotels in the area on Jericho Turnpike- There is a Marriott in Syossett, the Best Western, there is also the Huntington Hilton on Rt 110.
