My fh gets them and I never knew what it was called/is...
Look:
Chronic cryptic tonsillitis - Cryptic in the case of the tonsils refers simply to the tonsillar crypts which are little pit-like depressions in the tonsils. The word 'cryptic' comes from the Greek 'kryptos' meaning hidden or concealed. Thus, cryptic tonsillitis may be concealed because it is down in the pits (of the tonsil) and may not be causing apparent symptoms.
In some patients, chronic tonsil infections and enlarged tonsils can lead to a condition called chronic cryptic tonsillitis. The tonsils contain many small pockets and infoldings called crypts, which can trap small food particles and other debris. This can produce small, white stone-like particles called tonsilliths, composed of bacteria and dead cells, which are foul-smelling, can prolong the infection, and may cause a mild, intermittent sore throat.

Re: Cryptic Tonsils
I had the worst tonsils ever in the history of the world!! (im convinced) I would get tonsilitus so often that it completely distroyed my tonsils. 2 years ago I was sent to the hospital b/c they got so badly infected that the infection started spreading throughout my body. FINALLY after countless hospital stays, and tonsiltus they agreed they should come out. So at the age of 25 they removed them. the absolute BEST decision EVER. I havent been sick since (or at least nothing major)

Re: Cryptic Tonsils
One of my tonsils is more poreous than the other. Not sure if it's cryptic..but the last time i had tonsiltus I could literally take the pus out with a q-tip from the tonsils...it was nasty. Once-in-a-blue I get little pieecs of whatever I'm eating stuck in one of the pores.
I wish they would've taken mine out when I was a kid.

YESSSSSSSSSSSs - I have this! I am glad you posted. I thought about posting it but was embarrassed.
I got mono really bad in 10th grade and then had chronic tonsilitis for a year. (With a string of other major health issues). Anyway....ever since then my tonsils have been f -ed up. Lately the cryptic white things have taken over and have been here like year round! What the heck!
Supposedly only thing you can do it gargle with hot salt water....well I didnt like that.
Sooooo lately I have been using listerine twice a day and guess what....NO MORE WHITE THINGS!!! I have only had like 1 or 2 in the last 2 months. Its a miracle...sp try getting listerine and just use it as mouth wash (sometimes I gargle it too but it gets really bubbly!).

Mine are actually on the underside of my tonsils, so gargling doesnt get to them! Its awful. My doctor siad I should learn how to 'hack them up' EWWW

Re: Cryptic Tonsils
I had that problem, it was terrible. I would choke on food hours later when they would dislodge, it was gross. I would constantly feel like I had things in my throat and garggling didn't do anything. When I went to my ENT he took one look at them and took out his appointment book and told me not to wait. At 22 years old I had them removed and I don't suggest anyone do it as an adult my recovery was so rough and painful. This is even more gross but I would take Q-tips and more or less poke at them, it would help a little. Wow my post was way tmi.

I know exactly what you are talking about. I have it too! When I was youger i was put in the hospital for mono, strep and a severe sinus infection. My tonsils were cover with puss. Sorry to be gross but they have been scarded ever since. FH thinks I'm crazy when I sit in the bathroom with a flashlight and gag myself to get them out!

Surgery is awful as an adult!!! It took me 3 full weeks to be able to talk and get food down. I had it done at 24yrs old and at the time it felt like the WORST decision ever. The pain was so intense and since i couldnt eat anything and I wasnt drinking enough, I was dehydrated, admitted back into the hospital and was throwing up since i had just meds in my stomach and not food
Having throat surgery then puking is just the most horrific thing ever..but i did lose 14lbs lol But now its a year later and I feel so much better and i havent been sick since

Yeah, you have porous tonsils and food and **** gets caught in there! Its so awful, I'm disgusted by it.
my sister actually has this. I had no idea what it was called though. She has had a lot of scarring from torturous strep!!
She gets strep 4 times a year and has since she was about 8. Docs won't take her tonsils out.
She can squeeze them
this is gross
and empty them herself!
EW! How on earth does she do that?

That is what happened to me, I couldn't stop puking, I don't think I've ever puked like that in my life. I didn't get admitted back in teh hospital though but it was a full month till I fully recovered. Now years later I am kinda glad I did it because I have yet to have strep (knock on wood) since getting them out. but I wouldn't recommend it ever because it felt like torchure.

I was going to ask the same thing.
I have never in my life heard of this problem. I am sorry that some of you have it. It doesn't sound fun at all.

Re: Cryptic Tonsils
I definitely feel your pain. I had such issues with mine that it got to a point where there wasn't a healthy part left. I thankfully had them removed a few years ago...highly recommend that

Ladies I'm so happy I found this post....now I know I'm not a FREAK
I too suffer from this except I never knew it was an actual medical condition. FH thinks I'm gross when I sit on the bathroom counter and fish them out with a wet Q-tip!!!
