Yuppers he was in Nassau.

I'm jealous!! I wish I had the balls to go from Nassau. My Dad would murder me though, he says I will never set foot in Cuba as long as Castro is in power.

Your a compliance person right?

I am not Cuban but have fallen in love with the Cuban culture. My dream is to go one day ( when it is safe and legal) and I especially hope that everyone with family there can go there with no restrictions in the near future!

YOu can go there from another country.
They are sanctioned.

No you can't. Read the link I posted above - it is a government issued advisory explaining why those places are not sanctioned.

I mean, I know the whole situation on whats going on (i've done papers lol)... hmmm if only i had my european dual citizenship already... ok i just wasn't positive on the exact travel restrictions.... thanks for clearing that up for me

Oooo dual-citizneship in Europe? Where are you from? That sounds cool!

Don’t want to hijack, but I’m a dual citizen with EU citizenship too! I got it because my grandparents were born in Ireland. It takes a lot of time and paperwork, but it’s worth it. I don’t know if any other countries offer this. I guess it’s usually refered it as ‘citizen of foreign birth’

i was there in '95 for a weekend.

it was a life changing experience. it was like time had stopped somewhere in the 50's. the cars, the furniture, the architecture...

the people were so nice. my sister in law is from cuba, so we went to visit her family via cancun.

the moon looked closer. the sky was blacker. it was wild.

xoxo

Woooahhh - really??? That's really cool esp since your parents weren't even born there!! Unfortunately I think my Mom's side, also from Ireland, has been here for at least 3 generations. My Dad was born in Cuba, and I am actually considered a Cuban citizen by birth because of that (to show how much of a loser I am I can even tell you that this kind of citizenship is guaranteed under Art. 28 of the Cuban Constitution). But, if I were to do that, then I wouldn't have any of the protections of US citizenship while in Cuba and basically they could treat me like any other Cuban person - aka throw me in jail with no due process or anything.

as far as i know there are no sandals in the USA and there are tons of resorts in cuba that service european tourists. the sandals in cuba is supposedly SO nice.

the best hotel in cuba before the revolution was a hilton, but it's not a hilton anymore since the US companies aren't allowed to do business there. i forget what it is called now.

Yeech, that wouldn’t be the best tradeoff. I think Ireland started this policy maybe in the early 90’s when they were losing a lot of people to immigration. It’s going strong now that it’s in the EU, but they haven’t stopped doing it yet thankfully! It was easier for my mom because she was automatically a citizen, but I had to first apply to be a citizen and then apply for a passport. Much easier and shorter, though, than trying to get a temporary residency visa for Sweden!

And btw—I am totally impressed by the fact that you quoted the Cuban Constitution to me. It’s the closest I’ll ever get to being on Law and Order lol!

cool!
yeah, there were a lot of old cars that they keep restoring. and well! they don't import new amercian cars, so they have all the older ones and like, fiats. lots of mopeds with side cars i remember.

it was such a great experience seeing that at such a young age & realizing how grateful i am for what i have here in the states.

Honestly I think it is SO cool that you got an EU passport and everything. Any idea how many generations back they allow this for? I will tooooootttally hit them up for a passport if I qualify, lol.

And I am a loser for knowing the Cuban Constitution, lol. I went through an insane phase in college where I was convinced I was going to get to Cuba legally and I researched for months and months and that's how I found that one.

It only goes back to the grandparents sadly. My dad doesn’t even qualify since it was his great grandfather and not just grandfather. My mom totally has crazy plans of moving to Sweden to be with me if I have a baby---my poor dad would be left behind!

Unfortunately, no sorry..I dont know much.
I knew yes, At one point that you were able to go to Cuba, through Canada.
Someone like me could go, because I am a US Citizen but not my dad.
I guess all that has changed.
I did watch a documentary on it once and saw how people live, the very small income they received each month, NO trade with us, the old classic cars, and the area that tourists stayed within.
I would LOVE to be able to visit there one day.
