Cures for Rough Upper Arms!

Cures for Rough Upper Arms!

I need some miracle cures for my rough upper arms! They seem bumpy and dry on the back side...GROSS!

I read an article in a wedding magazine about some stuff to try, but I went to Sephora today and it was $62...not exactly in my budget for some arm cream...any other miracle cures with a less hefty pricetag?

Try using a scrub in the shower (Bath & Body Works has them for a reasonable price). Slather on a good cream after you've toweled off, but while your skin is still damp.

A friend of mine actually saw a dermatologist for this. I don't know what he gave her, but after some time, her arms were bump free.

I actually heard you aren't suppose to exfoliate the red bumps because it only dries them out more. I found an article about it online a few months back. Might wanna check the internet . If I find the article I will post.

What worked for me was using a body scrub, and then for moisturizer, I bought Amlactin which is a strong moisturizer lotion, not creme(about $26 for a decent size bottle). I never thought I would ever find a solution and I was sooo glad that it worked!!! I really would recommend it. Took about a week to see results. I am religious about putting the moisturizer immediately after showering.

Amlactin is available in pharmacies, some of them may have to order it for you if it's not available on their shelves.

Amlactin 14 oz

Hope it helps you too!

I actually have the same problem and I cut an article out of a magazine this is what it said:

Whatever you do, don't loofah off those dry, bumpy patches. Your problem, called keratosis pilaris, happens when hair follicles become chronically clogged, says Ellen Gendler, M.D., a dermatologist in New York City. 'Nobody knows why it happens, but we do know scrubbing makes it worse.' Try a nonabrasive exfoliant like glycolic, salicylic or lactic acid, found in cremes such a Eucerine Plus Intensive Repair Body Creme ($8.50, at drugstores). With daily use, you'll be camisole-ready in two weeks.

I have the same problem too and this lotion has helped:

Neutrogena Skin Smoothing body lotion (it even says bump minimizing!)

It's alittle more expensive than regular lotion, but has made my arms much smoother.

I have these bumps too- if I use lotion it goes away.

I have two theories about these...

1) everyone I know (including myself) that has this is slightly overweight...

2) I got this ONLY after my accutane use- and I did a search only and found some type of link....

so maybe I have them because I am a fat a55 ex-accutane user???

Sassy I have always had them and I use lotion daily after my shower, I am not overweight and I also used accutane, but had them before...I must be that exception to your theory

I'd suggest you use this cream. This cream is excellent. And you can use this cream on your elbows, feet etc...The ingredients of this cream in a stronger potent base is only available through prescription but there is this one over the counter that you can buy. It is very good and especially if you applied it after you shower.

Re: Cures for Rough Upper Arms!

Hi, I'm bringing up this post again because its summer and I'm sick of having people ask what is on my arms! For those of you who used AmLactin with success, how long have you been using it? Have you seen a decrease in the effect, or does it still work? Thanks!!

Also, has anyone tried KP duty by Dermadoctor?

My little sister is using the dermadoctor stuff and it doesn't seem worth the money. There isnt a cure for the bumps but just keep moisturizing. They are genetic as well. My father gave it to me!

A body lotion with AHA in it should help smooth it out. You can try a light and gentle exfoliation and moisturizer like Aveeno (oatmeal is a great moisturizer for your skin).

Good luck!

Oh, that won't help me...I hate the sun! I wear 50 sunscreen whenever I go out.

Thanks for re-bumping this.......

I've always had them on my arms, my whole life, never been on Accutane and never been overweight; so I'm sure this is some type of genetic thing.

I will try the cream you posted (AmActin?)--I'm up for anything at this point....

Me too. I haven't tried any creams yet. I just heard from this post that AmLactin is supposed to be good. It would be so nice to get rid of these red bumps. Everyone asks if I have a rash, and it's so annoying.

Thank you for posting this! I just found a bottle of it on eBay for $8.50! (expires 9/2006)
