curious- NO SHOW guests... what to do?

Original post by aliwnec10

Okay so what do you do about those guests who don't show up to your wedding? See i know most will say 'forget about it' or 'it's there loss.' BUT that's it??? Are you kidding me!?!?!

We tip toe around people while planning this wedding, we try to involve everyone, and we worry about people's feelings get hurt? So... why should we be polite about people not showing up to the wedding?!?!

I had 1 guest not show up (and i know you all will say 'hey at least it was only 1') but its not acceptable. That is incredibly rude. Not only did she not show up, she never called, she never sent a Congrats card... nothing!

So do any of you ever do anything about it?

I'm asking because i'm so VERY tempted on sending this person a thank you card and thanking her for not showing up, being rude, etc. Even though i know what everyone is going to say... is this a horribly bad idea?

I wish I had the balls to send a bill in the mail. That's fabulous.

I, personally would kill her with kindness... I'd send her a card and say something like:

'I'm so sorry you couldn't be with us to share in our special day. I hope that there wasn't an emergency that arose that prevented you from attending our wedding at the last minute. Please give me a call so that I know that you are ok. Take care.'

Passive aggressive? Maybe. But by telling her to call YOU, you're forcing her to be adult and explain her situation.

My guess is that you'll get a gift from her within a week of receiving the card...

very well said, as for the previous posts, no nobody should have to explain why they invited who they did - however, either my FH or I do have all of the phone numbers of people being invited

In addition, when you put something on a post and are asking for people's opinions, you have to realize that NOT everyone will agree with you

Re: curious- NO SHOW guests... what to do?

Okay... I am going to admit something here.

I didn't show up to a wedding once. I RSVP'd yes for my boyfriend and I. And then he and I fought and broke up. Liz called and asked me if I was going to still bring someone and I told her no... I would come alone. I KNEW I would wind up not going. I KNEW it because I hadn't gotten a dress, hadn't gotten out of bed in 2 weeks...

So day of wedding I woke up with a fever... nothing unmanagable. I tried on 2-3 different outfits and made a half hearted attempt to find someone who could drive me to Villa Lombardi's. My lack of success in these ventures drove me back to my bed to wallow in self pity. I never called to explain myself.

Our mutual friends tore me apart. Seriously, all our work friends just went bananas on me the next day back to work. They told me how rude it was, how hurt she was. I felt AWFUL. Honestly... I never really thought she would miss me. I figured with all the people that would be there, she would never notice one missing person.

Okay... I know better now. But the fact is that some people DO NOT know better. Some people really think that the bride will be so overwhelmed and wrapped up in her own thing that one person who didn't show won't make a difference. I realize NOW how stupid that is... but it is possible that there are people who don't realize this.

I did send a card and gift and got a nice TY... but my friendship with Liz was NEVER the same.

As to WHAT to do. I would let your work friends take care of that. Let all of them know how hurt and angry you are and tell them that you do not plan to speak to X again. Believe me.. she will hear about it and she will know why you have cut her out.
