curious poll...Do you honestly feel you have to spend ALOT of $$ to have an awesome wedding??

I am definatly on the cheaper side as far as weddings go and i wouldnt have it any other way........the one thing i am soooooooooo sick of hearing and i have said it before is when people say ' you get what you pay for' now if you have the $$ to spend on a huge expensive elaborate wedding then go for it!!! but i just hate that people say things like that to me its not that it hurts but its friggin ANNOYINGGGGGGGGG lol i dont think there is anything wrong with spending alot on a wedding .....then why do people think that its wrong to not spend as much????ugh!

no. I dont think so. I think in the beginning we all think we do. Having fun with good food and friends is what Im all about, and I could have done that in my yard!

ok not my yard, but in an enclosed space in my dress...so i could have saved 35k.

What i usually like always turns out to be convienent expensive and safe. and im lazy so I spend money....thats how I look at it.
Being $$ conscious was too exhausting for me lol

But no..my answer would be no..because my aunt got married in her best friends loft in manhattan about 30 years ago and had cold cuts and beer and wine and everyone cannot stop talking about that wedding so go figure!

I feel exactly the same way. You have to do what you can afford, and regardless it will still be beautiful. I'm spending about the same as you and i know it will be awesome!

every time i met a vendor, they all asked me what my 'vision' was. i really don't have a theme etc. what matters most to me is to share my wedding day with the people i love and care for the most. i want to have intimate romantic wedding & for everybody to have a great time.

so i guess the answer to your question, No i don't feel you need to spend alot of money to have an awesome wedding. as long as my closest family & friends are there thats what counts. honestly in 10/20 years who is really going to remember what centerpieces your had?? sadly except for your family your invitation will probably be history the next day.

i never think that people have to spend alot of money. Like when i attend a wedding i dont sit there and think 'ugh why didnt they do this or that' when it comes to everyone else i think do what makes you happy.

For myself, i went with what i liked and some things were more than i thought they would be but it was a decision i made. I know many think its stupid to spend alot and that is fine, but its like i said above. Its YOUR wedding, and the money we spend is money we make and spend lol so the only people who need to be happy with the amount is US!!!!!! so whether you spend less or more, there will always be people who criticize, just as long as you do it your way then at the end of the day nothing else matters.

I dont know why people concern themselves with how much others pay, i really dont give a sh*T lol and not in a mean way but im too worried about paying for my own stuff to sit there and think what everybody else is doing, plus its their money so doesnt effect me. If its somebody i know then i'll sit there and tell them 'are you comfortable with it?:' ok then thats all you need to remember. People are just too much in others business, so dont pay attention

i don' t think you do need to spend a lot of money to have a great wedding, but i think its sbjective to what you are having or not having and what kind of 'bargain shopper'you are. some people go the cheap route and just go for who is the cheapest and dont really put in the effort to look around for the best deal for the best quality and then it ends up showing... i think peopl eput that type of situation in their mind when they hear you have a lower budget.

someone like you will have a great wedding because you not only shopped around but you kept within a budget.

all in all we spend all this money .. for what? its one day and sorry to say but people just dont always notice all the little things you do. they are there to see you, to eat and to dance and drink... bottom line. THe men at the wedding arent going to be giving two shiiits about your flowers.

completly agree and like i said its not that i care that they say it ( im so used to it by now lol) its just annoying! lol i am very proud of what i have dane and i didnt just pick any cheap vendors i looked into them compared with others and what not.....so far i am happy! thats what matters. I am sure there are many others in the same situation....this thread might give them a place to vent as well lol

I think my wedding will be considered moderately priced. I am spending about 45k including honeymoon. I never in my wildest dreams thought we'd even spend this much because while I like nice things...I'm pretty crafty and thrifty about it. That being said...I really envy you heather, for getting the wedding you want without sacrificing your financial comfort.

heres a great example...I originally wanted sherwood triart as my photographer...they are AMAZING at what they do...at the top of their game...but deff one of the higher priced vendors. While they are amazing at what they do...thats not necessarily the reason for their high prices...it has to do with the location of their studio, the rent in that area, the clientele and target market in that particular area among other things. I just couldn't stomach paying top dollar just because a studio is located in a more wealthy area...I just wanted to pay for the finished product. so I have searched and previewed many other photographers and found some that are willing to do the same or more for half the price...the quality of their work is still amazing...but they don't have to worry about keeping up with demands of a wealthy neighborhood or any other bs.

its like a coach bag or something...alot of those name brand items get manifactured by the same manufacturers as the cheaper items...but you pay more. why? well first...for the name, second for the cost of building that name (ads, upgrades to storefronts) and also...coach has an amazing return policy...when you pay for that bag...you're not paying for 1 bag...you're paying for the possibility that u may need to replace that bag...the price accounts for that too.

ive heard alot of criticism too, its just better that they just show up and not have to know the details. Like i said, i dont know why others care so much, i never sit there and think 'oh wait but she spent x amount' ive seen it many times and even on here. I've been to small and big weddings of all budgets and theyve all been great in their own way. I have a friend who just engaged and he said he doesnt want to spend a fortune on the wedding and i said then DONT!!! if people actually sit there and focus on everything youre spending money on then they have their own issues and thats what the real problem is

No, you don't.

One of the best weddings I went to was in a converted barn with kegs of beer.

It was so simple, but it was all about the COUPLE. Not about the flowers, or the dress, or yadda.

You were SO focused on them being in love.

It was refreshing.
