Went today to look around and liked it - going for a trial workout on Monday - opinions? Likes? Dislikes? Success rate??

Re: Curves
Not a member, but I was considering it for a while. The things I've heard about it are that it's fast, it's simple, you don't have to think about your routine, but also that it can get redundant and boring after a while, the music sucks (really, I've heard that LOL), there's not a lot of cardio, and there is little to no focus on abs.
Again, haven't tried it myself, but these are the various things I've heard.

Re: Curves
It's funny because I specifically asked about abs and she showed me two very specific abs machines and they all have ab-rollers on the floor. She also said they had more machines than the average Curves - she said that the standard # at Curves is about 8 machines and she had 13. So - we'll see!! I'll let you know what I thought after my trial!

Re: Curves
I belong to Curves and my biggest problem is that the hours are kind of crappy. they close rather early and open rather late. but since going there i have noticed a difference in my body....the routine is a little repetivite but it's so easy that i dont' mind. I happen to like Curves a lot! What'd you think?

Re: Curves
The whole switch stations thing seems pretty weird - but I guess if it works - I don't care. How has it been for you? How long have you been doing it and how much weight/inches have you lost?

Re: Curves
Anyone go to the one on Fort Salonga Rd in Northport? I was considering joining to get toned by the big day. I did notice the hours are crappy ... not even sure if I can swing it!

Re: Curves
The woman I work with goes to curves. She loves it. She feels it's a good workout without being too strenuous

Re: Curves
I just started going about 2 weeks ago. I love that it's mindless - you walk in, do your thing and then you leave. It takes about 35 minutes with stretching. I like that you don't have to wait for anything since everyone is switching stations at the same time.
So far I find it to be more aerobic then toning. I never feel anything in terms of tightness the next day but my heart rate is in a fat burning zone while I am there so at least there's that.

Christine: Which one do you go to? My friend and I will probably go to the one on Bell Blvd. Did you get a yearly membership or do you pay per month?

Dolphin: This is the info I got from one of the Curves in Queens:
If you get a one year membership you pay $75 registration fee and $39 per month
If you want a monthly membership, you have to pay $149 registration fee and $49a month.

Re: Curves
I remember paying a sign up fee - I think it was around $75 for the year, but there is a monthly fee of $39, but you can travel to different curves, your not pinned down to just the one you join.

Re: Curves
Marcela - I joined the one on 34th Street since it's right around the corner from my office.
Of course since it's manhattan the monthly dues are a little more, I think $59/month. I have a card that will permit me to go to other curves but since they are individually owned & operated they say to limit it to once a week.
I signed up for a year but I can quit at any time. If I decide to quit, they will charge me $10 per month I was a member (the price difference between a monthly & annual member.
It is expensive, but I cannot beat the location and the ease of the workout. I have done the lucille roberts and other gyms and sort of wander around aimlessly.

Thanks for the info Christine and I totally agree with you. I used to be a member of the Lucille Roberts on Bell and would always wander around, maybe take a class...I hated it, such a waste of $$.
