Custom Cabinets?

Has anyone had this done? We have a tiny apartment, but I HATE the cabinets. I want to know if we can afford new ones, but every place I call wants me to come in

Here they are:

how much does something like that cost?

Re: Custom Cabinets?

Hi Beth!!!!!

You should go to Consumers or Home depot. You pick out what you like and they will come to your house and do the plans for you. Then they will give you a price. I think it really depends on what type of cabinets you want. Or you could measure and do it yourself! I will help!

The place i am buying has those cabinets - icky - but i love everythign else - so they'll have to do for now -

Why should you have to go to them - shouldnt they be coming to you to see what it look slike?

beth,

the reason why mopst people want you to come in is because they can give you a basic layout using a computer called a 20/20. if you go the custom route it might not be as much as you think because you dont have a huge kitchen. when you go custom it has its advantages because the sky is the limit on finishes of stain and types of wood. you also can have the size of cabinets and heights and depths that are perfect for your kitchen.

when you go to places like home depot and lowes and consumers they sell what is called semi custom. they are made per job which makes them custom but they only have certain products available so you really have limited choice in depths of cabinets and heights etc. if you go to depot bring them a basic measurement so they can make you a 20/20 and basically show you what your kitchen can look like and a basic price that would be subject to change after they went and did the professional measure. figure a 4-8 week lead time when ordering cabinets from home depot.

Re: Custom Cabinets?

your welcome beth lol. if you need any info what so ever on depot lol let me know. i think that home depot is good because there a huge company and although some of the people in the store might not be the most helpful there atlanta customer support is the best. one phone call to them when something goes wrong and you get things taken care of.

i would try and stay away from thomasville cabinets lately have been having a lot of problems and the workman ship is very shotty. i think kraftmaid is the best that home depot offers right now although expo offers some others but there way overpriced. if you decide to go with the depots at home service then they send a sales person out to give you a price if you go with the install. they then send another person who does a 'check out' he basically measured yet again goes over placement of products and makes sure everything works then the cabinets are ordered and when they come in you call and get a install date.

your kitchen should take about 3 days start to finish if you are doing a mica top if your doing a solid surface like granite or silestone then after your cabinets are in they come to template and then it takes about 2 weeks from them to come back and install. your usually without a sink for about 3 weeks or so unless you opt for the addtional money of a temp sink . anymore info just let me know
