Okay ladies!! So I've been a total mess about everything. I'm getting married in a bit over 3 months, and I'm getting my dress made. I have been to ONE appointment where they took measurements. Then for the past month, the seamstress has been on vacation in Europe. Before she left, I sent her a sketch of what I wanted, and she sent me back a more polished 'pro' sketch. And that was it.
Last night I go for our second meeting, and I'm a bundle of nerves and dreading standing on that 'stump' thing and having them piece fabric on me.
How about this lady breezes in with a cotton muslin prototype of my dress?? I was absolutely blown away. I had no idea that it would be made already, and I was completely shocked. I LOVED it. She even found a trim just to show where the trim would be, and she matched the trim to the muslin so it wouldn't be a distraction. I am just so relieved. I have had nightmares for the past two nights, and suddenly I feel so much better. I wish this vendor was in NY so I could give a massive RAVE, but she's in PA.
Then we got to be all girly and pick out the fabric- I decided on a dupioni/shantung silk type of thing. It was so much fun, I can't believe it.
It has been really sad reading all of these posts about getting 'the call' and finding 'the dress'- I was never able to find one that didn't make me look ridiculous, and it made me really sad that I was missing out on one of the true 'bride' experiences. I feel so much better, I just wanted to share.
I wish I took some pics, but I didn't even expect it to be done, so I didn't bring my camera. I'll try to post the sketch.
Anyway, thanks for letting me share!

AAARRRGGGHHHH! I am an imbecile. I will keep trying until I get it!
I live in Philadelphia, and the store is Suky on the main line. It was in Ardmore, but is now in Haverford. The seamstress/designer is Brenda (she is just the nicest person in the world). It was TOTALLY not as expensive as you might think- at first they came at me with this crazy price, and I actually started to walk out. Then we were able to figure something out, and now I'm just so thrilled, I can't stand it. Go if you can! It's just a bridal heaven. The old store was like nothing you've ever seen- just a dream of a place. They've had to downsize because of the economy (I guess), but the new place is great too, and these people are just...I can't say enough about them. From someone who dreads this stuff, to have the experience be so special, I can't believe it.

Suky is AWESOME! I went shopping there for a dress last year (I lived in Bryn Mawr then and I live in Penn Valley, near Narberth, now). They had some AMAZING gowns! I didn't know they actually had a gown designer! Incredible! I wound up getting my gown in Cherry Hill but Suky was such a beautiful shop!
ETS: Not last year, it's not 09 yet lol I went there in April.

Re: CUSTOM DRESS UPDATE PART DEUX!
Future Pepper- I didn't know either! They sort of mentioned it to me as an afterthought. They should advertise that all over the place! I found a dress there that I LOVED, but I couldn't afford it AT ALL, so a lady there sort of offhandedly said 'Maybe if we make it for you, it would be less expensive?'
I just couldn't believe it. I still can't. They have some dresses there that made my jaw drop. They have a whole Vera Wang section- there is a dress there that I would wear every waking moment of my life, for $12,500. That Vera has some set of balls, I tell you. But looking at the dress, I sort of have to say, it looked worth it. The work was out of control. I mean, I can't even afford a fraction of that, but just being there with those dresses made me feel like a princess. And let me tell you, I am as far from princess as you get.
Okay, hopefully FH can help me out with this and I'll be able to post it tomorrow. Thanks so much for your well wishes, everyone!

I think they didn't bother mentioning this to me because I went in to a Main Line store with a very un-Main Line budget. BUT, you're right that some of the dresses look like they're worth their prices. The quality and detailed work on some of them were just incredible. Although I couldn't imagine spending 7k on a dress I'd wear for 10 hours. My saleswoman called me... correction: literally STALKED me for weeks, trying to hard sell me on the dress. When I said it just wasn't in my budget she mentioned that I should buy it off the rack. Call me a spoiled brat but I didn't want a dress that a million other girls had tried on. Plus, Suky didn't carry the designer I was initially interested in. When I mentioned it, my sales woman tried to imply that any dresses by that particular designer were cheap and just not worth any amount of money. Psh. Lovely store but I'm not a fan of the hardcore selling.

Re: CUSTOM DRESS UPDATE PART DEUX!
Hey Tgrlily339- Yes! Of course it's Richard Simmons! I don't know why I love that picture so much, but I do. I just look at it and it makes me smile. Besides the fact that Mr. Simmons is a slamming piece of heaven, and I love that his balls are simply too much for his shorts to reign in. They won't be constrained by society or shorts! He lifts his leg, and they make their escape!! And frankly, any man who wears nylon short shorts and shaves his legs has my complete respect. It takes work to maintain a look like that. I would ask him to officiate my wedding if I didn't think he'd throw deal-a-meal cards at me and force me to sweat to the oldies as I walk down the aisle.
As for where it came from, I have no idea where I came across it- I wish I remembered. I think the day I set up my LIW account I saw it and figured, THIS probably best sums up who I am in picture form. Without the balls, afro and nicely shaved legs.
