Cutting Sugar vs. Cutting Carbs?

Are these the same? If you cut carbs are you automatically cutting sugar?

How do you control your intake of both?

If u're cutting carbs you're automatically cutting sugar, becuase sugars are carbs.

Cutting most carbs would be atkins where you have no bread, no pasta, no potatos, no tomoatoes, etc, you really can't even have that many veggies!

Cutting sugars would be like the sugar busters diet where you say away from refined carbs, things with a hugh 'glycemic index' which means you're stayng away from foods that cause your blood suagr to spike. Under this kind of plan you could steal eat whole wheat breads and pastas and some kinds of potatoes, etc. you would stay away from certain frutis and veggies with a high GI (glycemic index). Like carrots, corn and orange juice.

Here's a really good list of what you can eat on a 'good carbs' diet (the second option that marymoon mentioned)

If you want to cut carbs you definitely have to cut sugar. If your doing Atkins you have to cut out starches too, no bread, potatoes, pasta etc... There are also good carbs like fruit and whole grains. Right now I'm watching my carbs, I've cut out all sugar and, white breads, pasta, but I will have whole grains and fruit.

You girls were so helpful...Thank you!!!

My DH just had blood work that detected a high triglyceride count. He is fine, but needs to watch sugar and carbs. So, I am not exactly looking for a diet, but some education so I can help him make the right choices.

Thanks again.

I think something that monitors glycemic index like sugar busters of the link above would be perfect. It's not really a diet, but just a guide about what foods are good vs. bad carbs. I think that's the most sensible thing!
