our prob is that our OOTers who normally woudlnt come are using our wedding as a reunion with their fam... so its reallly freaking me out.... like people from NC who i havent seen since i was like 10 are coming up to see their parents/uncles/aunts etc...

yikes! we are banking on brads florida family not coming...so i def know what you are going through!! is it a matter of going over the max as far as space? or financially? or both?

financial is not so much an issue...its more of overcrowding the room.. its the last thing i want to happen... its not a huge room in the least bit... with it set up for 170, tables were basically on top of one another and thatg scared me

could you move it to another room? if $$ isnt the issue, maybe they could move you if another room isnt booked

Re: Cutting the guestlist

We stuck to only immediate family so no second cousins and great aunts and all of that.

We cut kids under 5

We told parents that they could not invite friends that we didn't know (the parent friends that are coming are like family)

We cut the list at 2nd cousins and if we havent seen them or spoken really to anyone in the past 5 years, they got cut.....

We're doing the A list B list thing... 95% of our B list is people we work with, so even though some of them might be a little upset if they don't get invited, it's different than if it was family.

Oh and the only family we've invited are aunts, uncles and cousins.. and I have one great aunt I'm inviting bc we were super close.

are you afraid of seriously packing out that room? its the 2nd cousins that are killing us... lol way too many... but mom is like well if you invite so and so you have to invite ... but is it our fault that we are closer to some than others... i knew i should have eloped

Re: Cutting the guestlist

We have A & B lists, plus no second cousins and no work friends. Since my parents are helping us out, I had a very hard time holding them back since they room only has so much space and so does our budget.

We're keeping fingers crossed and hoping the economy may prevent people from coming. So pathetic.

Praying people say no.
And I'm not kidding. Fh invites everyone he meets, but we live 6 hours from wedding site so I'm seriously praying people say no.

THis is what we are doing - our list is getting out of hand and there is really no way we can cut it so we are praying people will say no

We could not do anything because I do not know how to say NO.... We have invited the 230 room max........ I am praying for some NO's

Re: Cutting the guestlist

Just remember that approximately 20% say no. Also, an A and B list is good too. If you have a minimum, just invite about 25 over the minimum to start. If you get a lot of nos, start sending the B invites.

there are a lot of people that are OOT that we knew wouldn't be able to come. but other than that FH and i talked about it being very close friends and immediate family. there are a lot of people that we said we wouldn't invite b/c we didn't know them.

I'm also on the 'Pray people say no' list....My parents added an extra 60 people to our list 30 of them are my mom's family in Argentina that she SWEARS are just courtesy and NONE of them can afford to come, or will come. Then the other 30 of their friends are all here in the states, and are literally giving me heart palpitations daily. Thankfully, my parents are paying for 80% of the wedding, but frankly, THEY can't afford all these people, so ***!!??!! Our original VERY STRICT budget had been written around 130-140 attending guests MAX. We are now inviting 217 people
