Damn it, I got fired today.

Just when I thought things were going better at my job, I got fired right before lunch. One of my co-workers just called me and told me that out of everyone they ever had in my position, I actually lasted the longest. (An entire 3 months!!!)

Granted, I was thinking of looking elsewhere, since my boss was one of those types that was never satisfied no matter what and was very condescending. It was normal for her to talk and treat everyone as if they were a child.

My only saving grace is that I have a lot of experience, and I can go into accounting, bookkeeping or office management. So I have some options, however because I have limited use of a car, I'm stuck looking in Farmingdale, Melville, Huntington, Commack, Hauppauge and Smithtown.

Anyone know someone who's hiring?

Did you get fired of laid off??? If you got laid off you can get unemployment.

Well FH is not worried, he knows I am the queen of research and the last time I looked I had sent my resume to over 150 places and my phone was ringing off the hook. I think I had went on about 25 - 30 interviews in a 2 week span!!!

Now it's just a matter of starting all over again, but I hate it.

And I got fired, not laid off. Thank God I have money in the bank in the meantime, or I would get killed. I did manage to get unemployment last time because the grounds I was let go on was BS. But I don't think I will have such luck this time around.

I wish the city was an option!! Most of the jobs I wanted were in the city, but I would have to get up at 6am, come home around 7pm and spend $300 a month in transportation, costs!!

I'm so sorry! I hope you are able to find a job you love quickly.

Why can't you get unemployment if you get fired, isn't that the point of unemployment. I got FIRED once and collected unemployment.

I get up at 4am everyday-commute 2 hours and pay out the arse for the commute...you gotta do what you gotta do...

I got unemployment and I was fired. If you weren't fired for cause ie: stole something, did some illegal...etc, then you can get unemployment. Your previous employer I'm sure has been through this before and will probably just say in the report that it wasn't the right fit. Good luck. I have an excellent recruiter for Admin stuff if that's what you do. I was in your spot about 2 years ago. I know how you feel..good luck with everything.

RE: Unemployment

Apparently they have tightened the rules of collecting. They now give you a hard time unless you were let go due to lack of work.

I was able to collect last time, but because they actually had to have an INVESTIGATION it took me 2 months before I saw a check. By that time, I already had a new job.

They had to question everyone and everything and wait for a response. My only saving grace is that since they have already done the investigating with my former employers, they would only have to contact the job I was just let go from. So hopefully this would be a speedier process!!

I already have my resume on monster, hotjobs and careerbuilder (which has mostly ads from Newsday) so we will see what happens.
