I never would think that Matt Damon would be one to make political commentary, but i have to say he has a lot of good points...Damon

i agree with you...what Damon said about the 'bad disney' movie is offensive. And why does he think McCain is going to crock sometime in the next year or so??!!! Seriously...I mean Obama could die just as easily as McCain so I don't see that refernce.
And another thing why was he wondering what Palin thinks about the dinosaurs??!! I don't get that reference?
And....in my opinion people say that Palin is not qualified (experince wise) for the position of a VP but I honestly don't think Obama is qualified to be the next President. I would rather have a less experience VP than a less experienced President.
The reference to dinosaurs is because Palin is a creationist, meaning that she doesn't believe in evolution
Wikipidia definition: Creationism is the religious belief that humanity, life, the Earth, and the universe were created in their original form by a deity (often the Abrahamic God of Judaism, Christianity and Islam) or deities, whose existence is presupposed.[1] In relation to the creation-evolution controversy the term creationism (or strict creationism) is commonly used to refer to religiously-motivated rejection of evolution.[2]
EDIT:
Also, he talks about McCain kicking the bucket is because he is not the healthiest person, very unfortunate but he had cancer and he would be the oldest person to hold the presidency. yes, the chance that he could pass during the term is a large possibility.

EDIT...
Also, what is the problem with celebrities expressing their political beliefs? We do it all the time...they just have the ability to voice them to a broader audience. The Media voices their 'opinions' everyday and we listen...WHY...most of the time the 'opinion' that we hear is whatever that news channel pays them to say. Everyone has the right to voicing an opinion...i think it is up to us as intelligent women to hear them and whether we agree or not and make educated decisions.
I totally agree with this. Celebrities are citizens too with the right to vote just like us and the right to have their own opinion.

Yes they are citizens like the rest of us- BUT most times they dont have the facts correct- I NEVER mind listening to an intelligent person who knows what they are talking about and has read up, I do have a problem with anyone that *thinks* they know what they are talking about and doesnt.

oh ok thank you. I didn't know why he was talking about dinosaurs I was like did he loose his mind?!?!
But to talk about McCain he had cancer, HAD is the word. My grandma had cancer went into remission for 12 years and it came back again worse and now thankfully it is gone again. So yes he could get it back again but he could fight it again. or he may never get it back!! And while he is the oldest candidate to hold the presidency I don't think we should look at that as if he is going to kick the bucket in the next couple years. I mean look at his mom what she is 94 and still going strong!! But I understand that he is older and it COULD be a possibly. But Obama could become sick or contract cancer. I guess we will never know until it happens.

IMHO, she is not a qualified candidate. Her views are skewed, her beliefs are out there and yes because she is a 'Hockey Mom' she hasn't had the ability to gain the experience needed to help our country in this crucial time. I wonder how much experience Obama has gained to help lead our country while he spent the last 2 1/2 years of his term in the Senate campaigning and schlepping his twin girls around...
In your opinion, his role as a father doesn't get in the way of his ability to be successful as president. So why does Palin's role as a mother get in the way of hers ability to be a successful VP?
I have no issue with those who don't agree with her politics and views... I do however abhore the argument that motherhood precludes her from being qualified.

Regardless of your political affiliations, I am truly shocked that as women you are not the least bit outraged that he is mocking a woman who has managed to build a successful career from the ground up while also raising a family.
The Hockey Mom as bad Disney movie strikes me as completely sexist. Biden is praised for raising his children as a single father and making the sacrifice of riding Amtrak home every day from his job in the Senate. Yet Palin's abilities to be a mother while also balancing a political career are consistently called into question. What makes Biden more qualified to manage this balancing act?
I don't know much about Palin's politics but as a woman the double standard makes my stomach crawl. JMO...
Oh no...let's not pull the sexist card...and the fact that the woman went back to work only after a couple days after giving birth to her down syndrome infant son is not balance,,it is poor family values...I voted for Hillary Clinton in the primary it has nothing to do with sex and everythng to with completely disagreeing with all Palin's politics and life choices.

Also Palin said the war is 'god's plan' Charlie Gibson was trying to get her to explain in an interview and she did a terrible job trying to dodge the question...I take offense to her saying that this war is god's plan? Who's god is that?
Oh and more to the point..her 'great' speeches are all written for her and EVERYTHING she has said publicly has been teleprompted...cant wait to the debate ,, where I am quite certain she will crash and burn up next to Biden

I don't recall ever claiming that she is the perfect mother. I simply think that its insulting that Matt Damon and others (including people on this board) imply that because she is a mother she isn't capable or experienced enough to be a VP. I'm sure there are many women CEO's that would disagree with this implication. And I believe it is a sexist viewpoint. So oh yes, I played that card...
Oh and as far as her having speech writers goes, I don't think there is a politician out there that doesn't employ one so its truly a moot point.

Re: Damon Condems Palin
Sarah Palin has a lot on her plate. She is a mother to a baby, a teenage daughter who is pregnant and she also has a son going to Iraq soon. So people may think she isn't ready to become the next VP because she has a lot to handle in her family alone.
I personally agree with everything Matt Damon said.

Actually I agree that most all politicans have people who HELP them and SOMETIMES write their speeches but since she has been VP nom she has not made a speech that she played any role in writing..to me that is unacceptable.
I do disagree with people who feel a woman with a family cant do the job...of course a an intelligent woman with experience and a good record and good ideas could do a phenomal job and raise a family..Palin IMO is not that woman

I agree with you 92008bride. I don't get why people question her family values. So they woman went back to work after giving birth to her SON...why does it matter that he has down syndrome?? I praise her for actually keeping the baby (unlike many mothers do when they find out they will have a child with downs). And MANY mothers go right back to work after having a baby. Plus who is anyone to say that is wrong or right. I mean her husband obviously is around as well to help support the family. Just because she gave birth to the child means she can't go back to work?!?! That is pretty silly in my opinion.
And no one ever questions Obama's ability to raise his 2 daughters while campaigning and if he gets into the white house. So why should we question Palin's??!! Because she is a woman and the mother and Obama is 'only' the father?!?! I dont get it.
And I do not get why so many people on this board feel the need to trash and bash the candidate who they dislike. Why do people feel the need to say Palin is an an unfit mother etc. And hopes she crashes and burns, or Obama is a socialist who hates America. People saying that is not going to change others views it is only going to make people more made and start drama.

Im staying away from political conversation on this site from now on but I still read and I just wanted to agree with you. The bashing is uncalled for and Im upset that I let someone pull me into it the last few times I spoke my opinion. Which is why I wont be commenting with my opinions other than 'I agree or disagree' Not only are the candidates being bashed but someone resorted to calling ME names last night and Im not going to be part of anymore discussions because its just a waste of time. I agree with you 100 percent.

I know. I mean I have my opinion and you have yours (generally speaking) although I know we are on different sides of the parties haha But I respect your opinion and would never say you are unintelligent, ignorant etc etc. if that is the way you feel so be it. Why should I care, how is it effecting my life that you like Obama. Maybe he might be the next president but yuo know what I cant change that....nor can I change your opinion on him. I don't know maybe it is just beating a dead horse you know....you can say it over and over again but there are still going to be people who can't 'agree to disagree'
but sorry you were called names i still love ya and think you are the most beautiful meatpacker I have ever seen!!!

I agree with you. I love Matt Damon and I would say I am a Democrat , although not the hugest Obama supporter, but anyways...I also found his remarks extremely sexist and was shocked when I saw this. He made it sound that her being a woman is the issue and prevents her from being a good candidate. As a matter of fact for me Obama, Biden and her are all the same to me in terms of what I know about them. Although I might not agree with McCain or Palin I congratulate him for selecting a woman and I think Obama's decison not to do so, really turned me off....done..
I def do not want to create drama by the way and I just think it stinks that sexism still is so strong and it has made me really disappointed in this election....

To me, it's sexist to think that because she is a woman, women need to be supportive of her.
I like the right person for the job man or woman.... and a BIG job it is. There are many, many successful women on LIW alone, that doesn't mean I should be outraged because of what Matt Damon thinks of Palin!

I'm sorry...but everyone is so sensitive! Matt Damon was only talking about her inexperience. had nothing to do with her being a woman....regardless of your political view....she simply is not the right person to lead the country in McCain's absence.
