It really depends on a few things.
1. How much time do you both want to put into practicing? 2. What is the reason your going? Are you learning a choreographed dance or anything? 3. Do either of you have any dance experience?

We started in March, we go once a week. . . . it gets expensive But it is well worth it and we are having fun.

we started about 2 and half months before. We go once a week. FH and I have learned the choreography pretty quickly, but we need a lot of practice to make it look nice. So it depends on how much time you need and how much you can afford to spend.

we're going because we want a choreographed first dance, yes ...
we don't have dance experience but FH has done a choreographed dance before and he picked it up in one or two rehearsals (and it was waaay harder than what we're going to do).
we'll practice as much as we can, but we live in a small apartment so i don't know how well it'll actually work

we're going because we want a choreographed first dance, yes ...

umm.. I'd start... in.... May. I'd take 1/2 months of lessons and then practice on your own. Don't sign a contract locking you into anything more then 4 sessions b/c by then you shuold know if you need more time with the teacher or can do it on your own.

I would start at least three months in advance. We waited until two months before and it would have been better if we had a little more time. The month before the wedding we were going to 2 lessons a week b/c we waited so long to start. We took a total of 12 lessons. 10 lessons with both of us and we each had one private lesson with the instructor. The last couple of classes were spent really polishing the dance and working on timing. It was worth it b/c the day of the wedding the dance was perfect!!
