Dark circles are caused by one of three primary reasons. Here's the quick and dirty on which solution works best for each type.
- Bone structure. If you have deep-set eyes, shadowing contributes to the dark color under the eyes. Your best bet: camouflage. Look for concealers with yellow undertones, which counteract the bluish cast to under-eye circles.
- Pigmentation. Genetic hyper-pigmentation is the most treatable form of dark circles. Your best bet: Try a lightening cream or talk to a dermatologist about chemical peels or laser resurfacing.
- Vasculature inflammation. Late nights, allergies and nutritional deficiencies can enlarge the blood vessels beneath the thin under-eye skin. Your best bet: Take care of yourself! Sounds cliché but drink that water, get your beauty sleep, eat a healthy diet and avoid cigarette smoke (easy enough, right?). I suggest taking milk thistle supplements as well.

Re: Dark circles under my eyes
Some people say it's from 'lack of sleep'...but I seriously believe it's hereditary.
They're formed when the cappilaries under your eyes break (hence causing the 'dark') and the blood clots.
I use makeup!

Sleep and drink a lot of water...you can also slice a cucumber and apply the slices to your eyes.

Re: Dark circles under my eyes
I have to agree that it may just be hereditary...I have been trying to get rid of mine in time for the wedding (8 days to go!) and I have tried several creams, cucumber slices, etc...nothing worked.
Vitamin K is supposed to help that. There is a Vitamin K gel that you can put on your eyes...it didn't work for me though.

I have dark circles under my eyes too. I have tried every cream and cover up. If I sleep too much my circles are the darkest. I give up. If you find a solution please FM me.

Re: Dark circles under my eyes
I have terrible dark circles because I am fair skinned and I guess the skin around my eyes is really thin. I used Bliss All Around Eye Cream (from Sephora) and I think it helps. I still use concealer, but not as much...

They are definitely hereditary too. My meditteranean background is definitely a factor.

I have them too.
I started using an eye cream that Dove came out with. I think it's helped them a little bit (only started two weeks ago) but, they are still there. I get a decent amount of sleep most of the time and I do drink a lot of water. I try to eat right (although I do lack in a few food groups).

I have them too...bad. I hate them!! They are always the worst when I am dehydrated and when I don't eat right.

How do I get rid of them?
i once asked my dermatologist and she pretty much laughed at me....i think hers were darker then mine...
i use a concealer from lancome..it is called Corrector, i think and it is not a nude color it is on the yellow side..and i noticed that the yellow tones it down best and does not look caked on.
good luck!

Re: Dark circles under my eyes
UH, my ultimate nightmare dark circles. I think I have spent 3/4 of my life trying to get rid of these things. I always wear make-up for this exact reason otherwise I look like rocky, LOL. I have been to doctors regarding surgeries, and basically they even say you might see a slight difference but they will never completely go away. So basically save your $$$. I use MAC select cover up in the tube. It is light weight and you can layer for excellent coverage. I have tried every product and this is the best. I call it my miracle cream. I also use Patricia Wexler (she is a doctor) under eye brightening cream. You can find it at Bath and Bodyworks Flagship stores only, it is about $25-$30 which is not bad considering Hylexin costs $100 and I think the Patricia Wexler works better.
