David's Bridal
Has anyone been to the David's Bridal in Carle Place? Is it bad? If I don't go to that one is there another location that is better or are they all bad?

David`s Bridal
I bought my dress there back in 1999. If you are into the whole 'service experience' then David`s is not the place for you. It`s more of a dress warehouse and it`s always crowded with a long wait for an attendant. They have some very good deals on dresses (and budget was my top priority since we were paying for everything ourselves). I`m not saying it`s a bad experience but you definitely don`t get the personal attention you would in a smaller salon or boutique. You have to have an idea in your head of what you want, since they only let you try on X number of dresses (I think, that might only apply to Saturdays). The only thing that sent me over the edge with them was the fact that the seamstress was a little overwhelmed and told me my dress was 'lost' two days before my wedding. I freaked out and threatened to tear the store apart and lo and behold they 'found' it within an hour. If price was no object, I think I would have found myself someplace else. I think it`s the same senario at the Commack Wedding Center, except the sales ladies there are OBNOXIOUS and uninterested. We went in there early in the a.m. on a Tuedsay (no one was in the store) and no one could pull themselves away from their coffee long enough to care if we were helped or not. One chick was showing me ivory headpieces for a white gown, telling me that the contrast in color looked GOOD! Yeah, okay! See ya!

We had a pretty bad experience...kinda long
We went to David's in CP a year ago to find BM dresses for my girls. We had an appointment, but our 'consultant' was nowhere to be found. We started looking around by ourselves and then this nasty little woman starts yelling at us that we 'just can't wander around like we own the place'. Whatever. I explain that I had already purchased my dress from a David's out of state, but would like to try one on to see how I look with the girls. She tells me I can't b/c I obviously won't be buying it. ???? She escorts us back to the fitting area which is a complete disaster area. The stalls had no doors or covers on them and there were dresses left all over the floor in heaps. I had one BM who was VERY self conscious and we asked if there was something we could hang in front of the stall so that she could have some privacy. She looked at us like we were crazy and said 'she doesn't have anything we haven't seen before' and walked away. We ended up leaving and finding Bill Levkoff two piece dresses at another store for about $25 cheaper than the things we saw at David's. If you're looking to be fussed over or for great customer service then do not go to David's in Carle Place. A friend of mine went to the one in Brooklyn and another went to Long Island City and both had great experiences. Good luck!

Have to agree with shelby9201...
I walked in and it was a zoo. I was in tears when I left. I just get worked up over things too, but the 2 assistants were helping probably 50 girls and didn't have time for me. I also went alone and maybe that didn't help either. It was the one in Carle Place. I also called several times and left multiple messages for information and no one ever called me back.

David`s Bridal - Alterations
Be careful. I hear David's really gets you on their alteration prices. If you do decide to buy your dress from there I would request that they put in the purchase contract a cap on the alteration price. My brides maids will be getting their dresses from there (they are in 5 different states) but I don't think they will need to many alterations. Good Luck.

Can I ask where you did get your bridesmaid dresses from? 2 of my 3 girls will be in college, so I'm looking to save as much as possible, while getting nice looking dresses at the same time.

We went to Fantasia Bridal in Rocky Point so they could see the dress and get measured and then we ordered the dresses from Nebride.com They were great to deal with and since we were ordering separates, the girls needed minimal alterations and had them done by a local seamstress. Overall the dresses were $119 each and then alterations cost about $30 at the most. Good luck!

My experience at the DB in Carle Place.. long
I went there on a whim (no appointment) last April just to see of I could try on some styles to see what would look best on me. It wasn't a problem (it was a Friday afternoon), but they made me register. Thank-God I didn't put my phone # down, because the amount of unsolicited mail and stuff I got from vendors was unreal. Lesson #1 learned. They assigned me a consultant, and she told me to pick up to 6 dresses and she'd meet me in the dressing room. She pointed me to my size. I had my mom there with me. The lady told me she'd get me a strapless bra and shoes to slip on (I came unprepared). The dressing room was a mob-scene, however, there were curtains on each stall, if you wish. The consultant was no where to be found. So my mom and I started trying on. We tried on all 6, decided none were my style, and were getting ready to leave when the consultant showed back up and asked me what she was supposed to get me. That was 40 minutes later. Lesson #2 learned. However, despite my experience with the wedding gowns, I took my bridesmaids back in August and they selected a BM dress. We ordered (had to pay in full first!), and all 6 dresses came in in less than 4 weeks, all the right sizes and color. I picked them all up and asked the lady about exchanges, since my wedding at this point was 8 months away. The reason I asked is because I knew my friend was trying to get pregnant, and knew if she was succesful, she could be several months pregnant at the time of the wedding. I was told this was the only acceptable reason they would exchange a dress (but didn't get it in writing). Low and behold, in January, my friend finds out she is pregnant, and will be 5 months so at the wedding, so she goes back to exchange for a bigger size and was told no exchanges!! She didn't give up though and asked for the manager, and was then happily able to exchange. It's been a battle, but in the end, everything worked out. We are not doing alterations there though - basically on the recommendations I've heeded from these boards.

David`s Bridal
I don't think there is anothr one. When I was looking for BM dresses I called them b/c they had one that I loved. Well the woman was so rude to me. I was trying to make an appointment to come in and she acted like I was inconveniencing her. I called them back and spoke to the manager and told her what happened and even the manager had an attitude like she couldn't care less how the customers are treated. I really felt like there would be problems if I dealt with this place so I went somewhere else.

Run from David`s Bridal!
I had used David`s Bridal in Rochester for my sister`s wedding for my bridesmaid dress and the dresses were great and cheap. For my wedding, I took my bridesmaids there for fittings- which they don`t believe in measuring for size- you have to try on a sample and hope they have your size and style. They then lost our paperwork not once but twice! 3 of my bridesmaids were out of state and had to call Davids and give them their size TWICE! They charged full price before the order went through. It was a disaster picking up the dresses too. After they called and said they were in, I drove an hour to get there and they couldn`t find the dresses. I would never send anyone there again- they were a complete embarrassment. They are not worth the money saved for all the aggravation they caused.

Paramus, NJ
My friend is dealing with DB in Paramus and said it has been fine...also NJ might have different tax that could be better, but it would be a trek to go to for every fitting.

Davids - Paramus, NJ
I used Davids in Paramus, Nj (2 of my bridesmaids are in Rockland County so this seemed like a central place to meet). We didn't have an appointment (which I wouldn't recommend for a Saturday)but were seen in 45 minutes. I already had my dress and was not hassled at all. Our consultant, Violet, was very professional and helpful. We stayed for about 1 1/2 hours and she was very kind and patient. I also ended up placing orders for my bridesmaid and junior bridesmaid who live in California. I only had one problem which they resoved very professionally... They called me within 3 weeks to let me know that the dresses were in. When I got there, only 2 dresses were in. To correct their error they offered to ship the dress to California for free. We aren't using them for alterations but I would definitely recommend them for cheap bridesmaids dresses. They also have beautiful flower girl dresses all at $99 or $119.Welcome New Vendors
